Thx

its not possible to make an edge between 2 verts. at least 3 verts are needed. Edges are not lines. to do- use editable poly. select that object. find the create button in the vert sub level(press1). make 3 verts. now in the face or polygon submenu. (press 4or 5) press create and draw the face by clicking on those verts.

you might be after spline modelling.

or another kinda similar process(showing how to properly use a mesh smooth in low poly modelling Smile )

I would suggest adding this modelling technique to your skill set- Make a cylinder. add a edit poly modifier. deleted the top/cap face. now with the loop(or aslo edge seletion tool) select that openning you just made. now pres "w", hold shift and pulll the transform gizmo in one of the directions. you should be cloning edges.
Or
more simply put- create a plane, select an edge and shift drag it to a new position. it'll clone the edge creating a new face.
