One thing though, I like it but I would think alligator armor would be scaley.

Hmm... You could ask the Skyrim team about some armour mesh they found in the game. It was never used in Oblivion so you may be able to retex it and use it. I hope this helps. As for that armour (above), you could use that if you wanted to.

Aye, I know... I got lazy, drawing and shading several hundred scales is a bit tedious.
