More poetry from Dark As!
The sun sets on New York City
Broken rays of day
Darkness shines in eyes so pretty
Run the fears away

The hallway glows by candle lights
Shadows on the wall
A whispered word on quiet nights
Parted lips can call

You keep yourself far away
Heartbeats in your chest
So I hold you close today
Forfeit all the rest

Darkened city streets
Looking for cover
You’re just like a gypsy
You’re a wandering lover

Now there’s no one to cry to
No there’s no one to laugh with
There’s no one to sing to
And you’re all alone

Humming bird take flight
Starting to hover
You’re just like a gypsy
You’re a wandering lover

The hallway glows by candle lights
Shadows on the wall
A whispered word on quiet nights
Parted lips will call

You keep yourself far away
Heartbeats in your chest
So I hold you close today
Forget all the rest

Darkened city streets
Looking for cover
You’re just like a gypsy
You’re a wandering lover

Now there’s no one to cry to
No there’s no one to laugh with
There’s no one to sing to
And you’re all alone

Humming bird take flight
Starting to hover
You’re just like a gypsy
You’re a wandering lover
Until you find a wandering love

Let me get that door for you
Man, I can’t wait to get back
Man, some things just happened
Man, I think my visions going black

I think we need to turn there
Can you find your way from here?
Tell me, do you ever feel
There’s nothing to be found but fear?

Tell me friend
Can you see where we’re going
Cause all I can see
Is where we’ve already been

Tell me friend
Do you know when we’ll get there
Cause all I know is
I hope this trip never ends

Hear the rumble of the car
Over pavement rushing back
You and I have come so far
Only to find the things that we lack

Don’t you think its so true
Seekers find the pain they seek
And each new joy we can’t find
Makes our head strong and makes our hearts weak

Tell me friend
Can you see where we’re going
Cause all I can see
Is where we’ve already been

Tell me friend
Do you know when we’ll get there
Cause all I know is
I hope this trip never ends

I'm really looking for two things: Definate, tangible things you like, and definate, tangible things I can improve.
The soul's condition is learning to fly
Condition grounded, but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Toung-tied and twisted, just an Earth-bound misfit, I

Undiscourged am I.

-----------------

I say to myself, “this life is over,
before its even begun”
And I sit on the stone below
The spire, a mirror in the sun
And the rays, how they dance
How they dance to and fro
And I,
And I let it all go
And I let it all go

I lie by myself, blood against the glass
A deep red upon the blue
From the escape in my grasp
In silence, the day loses hue
The last man, oh the last man
In the end breathed his last
And I,
And I release the past
And I release the past
The soul's condition is learning to fly
Condition grounded, but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Toung-tied and twisted, just an Earth-bound misfit, I

I'm not one for reading poetry, but that provided a nice distraction for a couple of minutes =)

Flesh the master of compliment strikes again, I meant I enjoyed reading it Big Grin
To answer your question, yes. But probably no.

Thanks, Bob =)

These are more lyrics than poetry, inspired by jerry garcia, the rhythm can be a bit odd if you don't get the right mental intonation, but bear with it.

Laura was a blazing fury
Played as if possessed
Her fingers fueled with vengeance
Of a woman brought to test

She played guitar like a demon
Still no one guessed that
Her strings were stained with the blood
Of a past not laid to rest

Laura, she became a legend
Guitar became her life
But never replaced the burning
Of a soul so wrought with strife

--------------------------------------------------------
Laura, what happened to you
Did you fear the shadows on the stage?
Whatever would lead you to
Give up the game and disengage?

I wonder, why did you fall
Did you feel out of place in the sky?
Each time I hear your songs
I wish I’d told you: you can fly
-------------------------------------------------------

She couldn’t ever find the ground
Always felt the lack
Music couldn’t lift the wings
Of an angel doped up on smack/ Of a doped up angel on smack

And Laura never played the same
Fingers lost their heat
Wasn’t something someone did
She injected her defeat

She’d tried so hard to rise above
To begin again
But she sold her one way out
For that one last hit of heroin

--------------------------------------------------------
Laura, what happened to you
Did you fear the shadows on the stage?
Whatever would lead you to
Give up the game and disengage?

I wonder, why did you fall
Did you feel out of place in the sky?
Each time I hear your songs
I wish I’d told you: you can fly
-------------------------------------------------------

Laura saw what happened to her
Knew what she had lost
But she couldn’t face the lights
Ran deeper in and paid the costs

She drifted into history
Her flame flickered out
The people she used to know
They all remembered her no doubt

But what they recalled was shining
Not this faded husk
And Laura, she passed away
As dawn passes on to dusk
The soul's condition is learning to fly
Condition grounded, but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Toung-tied and twisted, just an Earth-bound misfit, I

hey DA, i don't know if ive asked you before, but, as you are frankly a pretty amazing poet/lyricist, would you mind if i developed some of these into songs?

I'd normally write my own, but my moments of lyrical genius are few and far between, whereas yours seem to be ratherfrequent Big Grin

probably not for commercial use, but if they turn out all-right they might see some light at an open-mike night or two Tongue

Thanks,
Edd

So long as I get to hear them, I'm fine with anyone creating their own artistic interps of anything I do, nothing commercial though

Thanks for the kind words, friend.

Big Grin enjoy,

Edd

EDIT: im also working on a "proper" original song, which is a bit more upbeat (music wise) but is actually still pretty depressing lyrically Smile

I... really like this one.

I stagger half asleep
Only half aware as I drag my feet
To the place where shore and ocean meet
And I wonder as the sea gulls call
Whether I will stand or fall
And why I had to make this all
So hard

They say that only time will tell
When the land will fall and the sea will swell
But I see the waves and I remember well
How the stars shine so long and bright
Familiar and every night
Under them I think might
See you

I lost the necklace that you gave me
With the silver chain and soft engraving
But the only thing there worth saving
Was the memory
But the trinket couldn’t take that from me
When I threw it to the sea

I can’t say that I know why
I was drawn to the always receding sky
I’m afraid it’s ‘cause I didn’t try
When I think back to last we spoke
I shudder and I start to choke
Though now I know something broke
I didn’t then

I lost the necklace that you gave me
With the silver chain and soft engraving
But the only thing there worth saving
Was the memory
But the trinket couldn’t take that from me
When I threw it to the sea
The soul's condition is learning to fly
Condition grounded, but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Toung-tied and twisted, just an Earth-bound misfit, I
