Partisipation in WW2

Have anyone from your family partisipated in WW2?3 of my great-grand father were serving in the Red Army and one of a anti -nazi rebel in Greece.

Yeah, my great-grandfather was Polish, but he fought for the British 8th Army in El Alamein as a Regimental Sergeant Major in the artillery division. He once said that he spent 72 hours non-stop shouting "Fire!" and his ears bled.

One of my great grand fathers was a marine and he was the only man surviving in his group.So when German soldiers were passing near him he played the dead.

I know one of my grandfathers was in the Royal corps of Signals in India and Burma - basically communications. Don't know any more about it than that, although my mother has his war diaries which I keep meaning to get off her and read.

Sounds interesting.Maybe your mother can make her diaries a book like Anna Frank diaries.

I doubt it'd quite have the same emotional resonance! Besides which, as an active soldier I doubt my grandfather would have been allowed to write too much detail in case the diaries fell into enemy hands.

My great uncle was a radio operator in the British Navy. He was killed in action when his ship got sunk by a torpedo. My family didn't find out what happened to him for years because the operation the ship was taking part in was classified, even after the war. We had to wait for the government to open the archives.
