Quest Ideas to decide on
Howdy

I'll just throw some out, and you all may throw some out also...if theirs something in particular which catches your fancy lets discuss it, they can be as simple as they are or they can be as complex and intriguing as we want Smile

Enjoy

1) Rumors: Did you hear (insert npc name) is having an affair with (insert npc name), watch either npc until you see them together, report your findings back to the wife of the man, the next day you find the man sitting outside in ragged cloths with a sack next to him, he wont like you very much, speak to his wife again and she offers you a reward

2) Message Board: Escort a Nobles Son/Daughter to her grandmothers house

Walk along with the son/daughter to grandmothers in another town, he/she will try to seduce you, once you get to grandmothers, grandma won't be home and the son/daughter will ask you to come in, he/she will begin to remove their clothing, if you stay and watch once the son/daughter removes the pants/skirt, the grandmother will arrive home and chase you out callingthe guards... you'll have to pay a fine Smile if you say no to the offer to enter the home and return to the father he will reward you for not taking advantage of his son/daughter.

3) Legion or House: Nix Hound Fights.
The guards have heard of illigal nix hound fighting in one of the homes, locate this home and put an end to the nix hound fighting.

4) Mages Guild: The Red Wizards.
Some of those who had been rejected to join the Mages Guild have started their own group, the Red Wizards, they as a group have mastered Summoning and are out to avenge themselves against the Guild, recently some guild members have gone missing... your job is to find them and the wizards and do what needs doing !!

5) Message Board: Help me move... (insert name) is moving from one town to another, but has no way to get his/her belongings to the new home. convince a very busy courier to take this task and deliver the property to the new home

6) Rumors: Have you heard (insert name) was robbed last night, the guards have no clues.. talk to home owner and find that his prized collection of paper has been taken he asks you to please find the thieves and return his paper.

7) Mages Guild: The Looking Glass
speak with (insert name) at the mages guild in (insert location) he/she is working on an experiment and requires 3 special black pearls and asks if you can find them and return.
asking some fishermen could reveal a place where black pears might be found... find the pearls and return

8) House Quest: A different Variety of Fruit:
Speak with (insert name) from house redoran and you will be told of the need to introduce a new variety of tree to the region and you will be asked to optain the seeds of this tree and plant it in several places

9) Message Board: Love Sick needs help
Speak with (insert name) and she will tell you of her love (insert name) but he has no feelings for her
she wants you to visit achelemist (Insert name) and have him/her make a love potion, take the love potion and convince or trick the man to drink it (lets hope it works Big Grin )

10) House Quest: Escort the Artist
you will be asked to escort an artist to another manor home where the artist will be painting a family portrait
only thing is that the artist had painted a portrait of this sort a few months ago and it didn't turn out very good, so the unhappy customer has send someone after the artist

11) Misc Quest: Cursed Ring of Charm
you discover by chance a note which mentions a Ring which gives the wearer the ability to command anything from anyone, the note gives the exact location of the Ring..go get it....except as you will find out, it is cursed..

12) Mages Guild: Released Spirits
The guild has kept a Special Vase which held the spirits of some unwilling wizards and other sorts, the Vase was being moved for cleaning and the clumsy novice dropped it, shattering the Vase and releasing all the spirits, fortunately the room is magically sealed and the spirits are trapped in the room. you are to venture in and suck them back into a "special Gem" Dont miss Smile

13) House or Misc Quest: Light of Day
Enter into an ore mine and as you travel into the mine it gets dark, speaking to one of the miners.. you are told that the tourches and lamps will not say lit and production is being held up, if only their was a lamp which stayed lit all the time, this will prompt you to speak with a mage about a magic lamp... go to the guild house dicuss this with a mage, you will be ask to obtain some ingrediants and a lamp will be made.. the light should be very bright... take it back to the mine and give it to the overseeer who will thank you and reward you
( a twist to add if desired) if you return back to the mine in a few days you will find all the miners wandering around, you will discover that they are blind due to the lights extreme brightness and constant glow Smile
Then you will be asked to help them

14) Misc Quest: Random encounter with NPC (insert name) you will discover he is a Bard and has been asked to recite in the town court but he can not locate his harpist. Find the harpist and return him to the courtyard

15) Misc Quest: Go to an inn to spend the night (pick place) find out from the inn keeper that their is no room available except that one renter has only paid for 1 night and has been their for 3 nights, he insists he will pay for the additional nights but has not, go to the room and find out why the player doesn't pay or leave, several options for this, simply make the player pay by intimidation or make him leave doing the same or we can have his reason be (my thought) he's has an addiction to gambling and a hustler has taken advantage of this by "fixing" a few of the games against the poor addict....help him

I especially liked the first one. I think a number of players would laugh their butts of when they spot the hapless husband Big Grin and comic relief that makes perfect sense is rare to come up with, I think.

Ok, so when the quest starts, I imagine that two quest markers would become activated - one for each suspected lover. It could be done without quest markers, but then there'd need to be an NPC who initiates the quest and gives the player something to go on. For instance that one of the suspected lovers like to visit a particular outdoor(*) tavern, say, mondays wednesdays and fridays for two hours each night. The character would always do that, but with the quest activated he/she could also strike up a conversation with the other lover. (Conversations in this sense is when two NPCs speak audible dialogue lines back and forth, regardless of what the player is doing.)

(*) For AI reasons; it'd be similar in setup to the way the crooked merchant talks to his associate in the IC's Market District quest.

So, if we were to go with that route, the player would wait at the tavern at the appropriate time and then see the characters talking to each other. Once their conversation is over the player's journal is updated and he can move on with the quest, technically similar to the way it was handled with the crooked merchant in the Imperial City's Market District quest.

Perhaps something like that could work?

Yes I like your idea of how it could work thanks

I thought about these ideas a few nights ago, just stuff to make the game more fun and not all hack, slash, recover stuff, but just the kind of things that could happen in the travels of a player

I know how AI works in general , just not how its been incorporated into ES, my understanding of that is that it allows for certain actions based on conditions I recall an example from my reading that said "if an npc is a thief and the theif is hungry but has no money and the conditions are right, he will steal the food and based on his level of experience and if no one is around he can get away with it, but if another npc were to come into view of this and see it, the guards would be alerted.

Is that about correct?

Well i'm not really sure how advanced the AI is. I've certainly never seen anyone thieving, but then again, if i did they wouldn't be a very good thief. Most of the actions an NPC does require packets, which are sets of instructions based on conditions. For example a find packet tells an NPC to go find someone, if x and y conditions are met. There are eat packets, telling an NPC to eat for a certain amout of time each day, there are use item packages, which tell an NPC to go to a certain spot and use item x, whether it be sitting down and reading a book, activating a chest, or doing other various actions, ect.

So that's what AI can do. I do agree that the game should be much more subtle than hack'n'slash, and indeed it is sometimes, but not nearly enough. Even basic quests can help add flavour to the game, by making the NPCs more relatable, and the game more endearing.

I kind of want to use that second one in an FG quest, would be an interesting series of quests... :brew: Also an awkward spot for the player to be in. Tongue

FIRST QUEST

Mostly as Bob wrote it, except escort the son/daughter from a remote location in the wilderness. Upon reaching the father's house, the son/daughter will try to seduce the player, and we know what happens here. Wink Either dad catches them and wants revenge, or son/daughter will be disappointed and want to meet the player some time later.

SECOND QUEST

Dad would hire bandits to apprehend the player during the next escort mission, but asks the bandits to leave the daughter alone (so he'd hire another guard for the mission, just to be on the safe side in case the bandits or the player try anything Wink ) The guard will die after the bandits attack, and take both the player and the son/daughter hostage.

-or-

The son/daughter would want to get captured in a "romantic" way, which would make for a romantic getaway. Wink (he/she hiring the bandits to do this of course to do this) Doesn't quite work as planned... The bandits attack and take both the naive son/daughter and the player hostage, but a little more forcefully than agreed on. The bandits won't release them.

They demand a ransom for their release. Now the player needs to escape with the son/daughter. After escaping, the dad/son/daughter (whoever hired the bandits originally) will explain what their intentions were, and ask for forgiveness, and give the reward for the quest.

Nicely Done TID, yes this would make for a good FG quest, your welcome to use it as desired. The romantic capture is an interesting idea, theirs not much of that going on and it would be a nice fun thing to do.
