Small Atmospheric Quests (Dead)
I was just thinking about what Oblivion lacks, and I found one of those things to be the small atmospheric quests, things that have to do with everyday stuff, like buying some bread for a certain guy. Delivering a payload to from a to b or maybe sometimes escorting people from a to b, and I think that what Oblivion lacks should be put into BM just to make it something more that just an extra province in an existing game, but actually adding features. Just tell me what you think and maybe I can work on putting some in.
So yeah I'm 13 and small for my age, at least that will make me a decent Dwarf Big Grin

Having never actually played Oblivion before, I can only go by what you personally say about it lacking atmospheric quests.

If so, then I think such quests would be a good thing. You can put in some plain quests, like fetching coconuts or whatever. But if you can, try to think of some more creative versions of such atmospheric quests, too.

Whatver you do, please keep a log of the quests you make, somewhere in the "Quests" forum.

In that log, please provide the following info for each quest:

1) Quest Name & Editor ID
2) NPC's involved
3) What the quest is about.
4) Any other important info I may be forgetting...maybe

Yeah, don't let those little turds get you down. Dingleberries stick for a while, but eventually they fall off. Cool

I'm not entirely convinced. Morrowind was full of these little "Fedex quests" and my recollection is that they were rather derided at the time. It's not easy to put together tasks that engage the player. I certainly disliked being a delivery boy in order to make faction progress, and I think there was a deliberate move away from that kind of plotting in Oblivion. Which is not to say that there's any harm in having such misc quests if they can be made interesting.

Hi Miz;

yes they should have it. Now Morrowind was fine. it made it REAL! But on the same note, Morrowing had no actual talking sound so it came off as dry and boring. If we add these quests with nice dialogue, it would be great. A way to make a dry plot, is to have good actors and dialogue.
That's how I see it.

Fair point that lack of dialog made the Morrowind "Fedex quests" less involving than they might otherwise be. Trawling through written dialog was always a barrier to immersion.

If small side quests can be added without distracting from the main story arc then you're right - they add depth to the environment. At a certain number then the player won't know what quests lead to future plotlines and which are just one-offs. That's fine until it gets to the point where there are too many and the player can't make progress on the big story for chasing around after shopping lists.

Balance, as ever, is the tricky part: get a proper opinion on everything from Ibsen or Deeza and you won't go wrong!

Hi Mor;

yes I agree, but Morrowind was so amazing, i read the dialogue to the fullest.

i think we need to set a number of quests that won't distract at all.

We will wait till IG is back and Deeza.......haven't seen much of him lately.

Yes, but I'm thinking he should be back by now. Two weeks have passed, which was the length of his holiday. He also said he's was waiting on his internet connection to be fixed up.

I've PM'd him today. Hopefully he'll have internet to read my PM and answer it.

Just one main point: we could do with some small quests although perhaps not quite as originally suggested (as morcroft points out). Nevertheless, little incidental ones need to be put in like as of yesterday as we need them pronto.
