I don't think it was in TES3, but I believe it's supposed to be a desert-like area.

I belive the map is referring to the lava pools in the area. Have you ever seen all those lakes of lava about? I'm pretty sure that is what it means... part of the Molag Amur region.

So much for my suggestion to make the land more diversified. Seems everyone wants lava that is yellow due to metals that don't exist on Vvardenfell.
