Only some can probably read and write, which is why I don't mind letting this go uncorrected. Orcs are famous for their lack of intelligence...

not exactly lack of intelligence, but also their relative exclusion from it...
they had been treated as beasts by most folk for thousands of years and only recently won acceptance with Nova Orsinium and gradually by serving in the Legion...
also they had no real literature known before anyhow, they were a tribal people, always were even in the days when they worshipped Trinimac... infact they were some of the greatest Aldmer warriors then and some of the greatest Mer warriors now...
however they affiliate more with beast-folk and tribal men cause both have similar background, being attacked by the men and mer "civilized" societies...

I'm not saying that orcs are useless, but that is what they are known for throughout Tamriel for... As for not being able to read and/or write, I think that could be ignored as this is a province other than Cyrodiil we're talking about, where the Dunmer despise orcs, but orcs seem to be somewhat more free (kind of) there... (or is it just me?)

hmm... let me correct you slightly....
in Morrowind as long as you also have a small band of Orcs with you and have nice weapons you are free-er...

also notice how many architects in Morrowind are Orcs?
notice how Orcs in the old Orsinium held out for 30 years in iron castle?

these guys are great with craftsmanship... in our world they'd do the "blue-collar" jobs... the crafts, the trades, and the labor... but they'd do it damn well...
the Dunmer can understand their devotion to a Daedra (though in their opinion Malacath is a bad choice), and can understand their warriors spirit, and admire their architectural skill and armors they make...
but in the end, most Dunmer will conclude that they are N'wah, and are dangerous ones...

kinda feel sorry for them though... they have a rich tribal culture... but most die before sixty cause they are either in tribes fighting men and mer or in the Legions fighting for the Empire... they are on the frontlines but its the old Cyrodiilic boys that wave the helms and gets the chicks and mostly Imperials in command...

Much worse than that before Gortwog came along, they weren't even considered as possibly civil.

Orcs confuse me. They are these big, buffed, smelly monsters that could rip your head off, yet they are still mer, just like altmer or dunmer or maormer or ayleid or any mer out there. Their race is called Orc, but like the dark elf and dunmer, they have another name of Orismer (sp?)
Lol what?

they were once followers of Trinimac, the great war-god... and they were powerfully built warrior-elves living as nomads and possibly very feared by other elves...
but when Boethiah swallowed Trinimac when he tried to stop the Velothi migration or exodus, he was turned into Malacath and had the sphere of oaths and outcasts and a patron of beast-folk, outcasts, and orcs...
cause that's what becoem of his Aldmer, they like him, transformed, and they became green-ish skinned Mer.... with fangs and became even heavier set... but fell into more tribal ways...

Orsi - Mer
Pariah - Elf/folk
pariah is outcast or exiled person... I suspect the other elves (and men eventually) attacked them so much because they were once powerful and so feared for their war prowess so now they were scattered and disunited the people of Tamriel wanted to enslave them, turn them into beasts, and fight them to extinction...

I still know so little about Tamriel lore. All I really know about are the Dwemer and the Ayleids.

And as for history, I only know what was in or said in the game, and I know about the Camoran Usurper
Lol what?

Concur with the perfessor all the way again. Would add that orcs are not really unintelligent in Tamriel, actually they have a very fine sense of culture but their manner tends to give the impression that they are not so smart, and we enjoy thinking of them that way.

However, if you ever met the Orc King in Orsiium then you would soon change your mind about that. One smart dude with huge charisma. Maybe somewhere there is a hidden Orc School of Magic too...

When we create our characters different races are give high attributes and bonuses in different specialities that refelct the occupations that those cultures specialise in and therefore what you are likely to meet perhaps, but Tamriel is a big place, and I am sure you have met unsociable imperials, clumsy kitties, peaceful and sociable dunmer, etc... there may even be a modest Altmer somewhere  ... so it might be an idea to keep an open mind about the orcs... :]
Because loyalty is not to be spoken of and honour is to be endured. Whilst courage is to be survived. These virtues belong to silence.

actually ever heard of Reachmen? they are a "mongrel" breed of men... part men, part altmer, and sometimes part orc.... they are good warrior, good magicians... and learned much of their magic from orcs... which would lean more towards shamanistic arts...
personally i think Orcs are just more to the land and more natrual than "civilized" people... they and their friends the Reachmen and the Argonian men as well as all beast-folk with exception of Imga all act more as they are naturally to be... while most men and mer go for "civilization" which in the west means destroying forests, over-working the land, killing or converting natives, and have monopolies over local economies... damn the west... Sad
