Vvar - The Three Traitors
The Three Traitors
A Poem of Unknown Origin
Recorded by Gilva Dagoth
It seems that this is a prophetic piece made long ago. Some say it came from the Ashlanders. Others say the old Dagoths uttered this curse upon the Tribunal when they massacred the Great House. Regardless, they have only been a few written copies, in old Dunmeric. They have been found in a Molag Bal Cult, hidden in a jar in Falasmaryon, and one in Koal Cave. The origins are obscure but the message is clear, with many underlying meanings.
____________________________________________

When the traitors come, they come in three
The Almsivi woke and saw the Heart
Three came into profane ritual to ascend
They killed the King with deceitful art

When the traitors come, they come cunningly
Snake-faced queen knows one House too strong
Five Houses betray the one that was with Nerevar
Only orphans left, Dagoth parents all gone

When the traitors come, they come to usurp
Dreugh rule the seas and shores since ancient days
Son of netchiman?s wife wages war on the elders
Molag Bal?s Children?s skin flayed on the quays

When the traitors come, all three are hurt
A rape and a Ruddy Man for the Poet tossed
Dagon?d city saved by the other two
Lie Rock descends upon the city of cross

When the traitors come, the past comes back
Dead House revives to spite the Three
A Poison Song that sings for all their kin
Sharmat and his House return quietly

When the traitors come, two do not return
Twilight-mother weaves a prophecy of death
Indoril Goddess slain by husband Reborn
Wizard mocks Queen with dying breath

When the traitors come, one is left
For Tribunal?s loss, Houses war to pay the price
Dagoths muster and Cults gather in long lost shrine
Dreugh carry the man-god to Molag Bal?s vice

When the traitors come, their last is taken
War between Temple and Dagoth with no escape
Dreugh rise with seas and mountains bleed flame
Man-God falls to his life-enemy of Rape

When the traitor dies, a tumult ensues
Lie Rock falls, Red mountain cracks
The wronged take back from the traitors
And walk their new hard-won tracks

When the traitor is gone, the Fifth Era begins
Land where the unmourned House rules the five
Sea where the children of Fire-rock revive
Traitors come in three, now no longer alive

I know seriously... no one gives a damn about literature...
literature and quests and personality of NPCs brings more depth into the world...
and depth makes games good... but I guess people don't care?

I dunno Confusedhrug: but I do what i can

That's pretty good! The oblivion writers could have used you on their team.

The thing about literature is that it's always in the background, and you don't quite notice it, but it still enriches the world. You miss it when it isn't quietly giving depth to the game.

Then again, i've spent hours (literally) reading books from morrowind and oblivion.

At this rate, Vvardenfell and ST are going to be deeper games than OB was!

RE: Vvar - The Three Traitors
Sounds great. I like this a lot.

It's a bit _too_ prophetic though IMHO. I'd put forth that only Dagoth Ur (after becoming a god) would have the power to bring such a curse to bear against the Tribunal, not just any old Dagoth clansmen. remember that the old Dagoths are not even corprus beasts or ascended sleepers or anything at this point and would at most be just powerful wizards if even that (and most likely not as powerful as any Telvanni wizard). If it was the ashlanders it came from, then that's quite a seer they've got because she hit it on the spot. Maybe make it slightly more... prophecy-like and less precise.

While you don't give precise origins so it could be almost anything and neither dagoths or ashlanders, you, as the real-world writer, surely have some idea of where it comes from. I could see this being written before Oblivion occurs, but after Morrowind. That way the writer would have known precisely what occured concerning Almalexia/Sotha Sil. Maybe one of the younger Dagoths wrote it and is attempting to have it appear to be old or a curse of some sort. Kind of creating a "manifest destiny" for House Dagoth and maybe trying to put some fear into what's left of the Temple.

The bigger issue is that Sotha Sil most certaintly did NOT say anything to Almalexia when he killed he. He did "mock" her with his silence, but the "with his dying breath" does not imply silence. It implies he spoke and literally mocked her using words. Maybe change to "in his dying moments" or come up with some slightly more figuative language to use.

Also, that Dreugh reference seems to take place after the events in Morrowind/Tribunal so is this a reference to your planned Dreugh mod? The only major Dreugh-related events I remember in Lore happen before the Nerevarine is born (and Vivec created those Nix Hounds - which seem rather hostile to even Dunmer... so maybe Vivec dropped the ball on that one).
