It's a possibility Confusedhrug:

It would be just like playing Morrowind and then adding Tribunal to the mix.

With the Tong being in a state of disarray, its one possible opening to get the player involved with the Tong

I'd say another possibility would be if you kill a couple assassins, they invite you to join the tong. Cause obviously if you can kill an elite assassin, you deserve to be one yourself.

I would also love to make or see a really well done quest where you are the writ. I don't just want to send assassins after you, cause you can't evade something that knows exactly where you are at all times (AI). Instead, i'd love it if there could be a whole big quest, with lots of scripts and fancy AI, so that you get chased around Silgrad. The Assassin moves the same speed you do, stops for meals, resting, ect. If you stay in a bar, inn, or other public place, he becomes alerted to his presence, but through rumors, you can also keep tabs on him.

It's just a really cool concept, and i'd say that if you do confront the Assassin, kill him, and then kill the guy who wanted you dead, it'd be perfect grounds for joining the tong.

Bob says:

This is a most excellante Idea, It could do well with the MT but not necessarily suited for their type of assasination

Possibly for a class of bounty hunter

And yes if the player starts off with a writ against him/her and dispatches the assasination attempts they very well should be asked to join...... I think we talked about doing that

The motives are what i need. Give me a good reason why one person would want another dead, and be willing to pay large sums of money to do so.

Also, what class would most of the clients/targets be? I'd assume they'd all be upper-class, but there aren't that many upper-class people in ST to assassinate!

Anyways, the first writ can't be anything too flashy, so if anybody's got a good simple idea for why one middle-class person would have somebody else assassinated, feel free to share. I was kinda thinking that it could be a feud between families, where you need to assassinate the head of a rival clan, but that might be too cliche.

Brainstorm time

Upper class is not always the case, a writ can be solicited by anyone who has a greviance against another, If Farmer Darvo steals Farmer Golar's Female milk producing Guar and their is a dispute over it

Then a writ can be asked for to settle the dispute

Hey theirs one... Guar Milk New Ingredient !!!

somehow, guar milk seems extremely unappetizing, if someone stole my milk-producing guar i'd pay them for taking it off my hands...

A farmer dispute could actually work quite nicely. Some scenario similar to the one you suggested. Perhaps Farmer B stole Farmer A's prized vegetables on a regular basis. So you have to go kill him. You would get an extra bonus if you can avoid killing any of the innocent farmhands. The bonus would be the privilege to pick Farmer A's vegetables, which just might happen to have some very useful alchemical properties.

Also, I'm sure the landscape could use a few farms to add some variety to it.

What do you guys think?

Wait, wouldn't Guars be reptiles? Mostly mammals make milk (say it 5x fast!). Though it would be an interesting ingredient.

I'll make a separate thread for it, start developing the background and dialogue, ect. It should actually be a pretty straightforward writ. No complex alarm systems, large caves, or wacky AI. The most time-consuming part will be making the NPCs with dialogue (they always have to have full dialogue, and i ALWAYS go overboard on it).

Here are a couple of ideas we can work with

NPC Y married a woman who was married to NPC X, npc X was a
member of the fighters guild and was sent on a mission and did not return.
Thought to be dead NPC X's wife re-marries. When NPC X at last
returns, he wants his wife back, NPC Y refuses to give wife back
or pay restitution.

NPC X approaches the Tong and requests a writ of execution against NPC Y

*******************************************************************

NPC A, B & C are (or were) friends, they went on a treasure hunt
and found it, gems and gold valued at 1500... now they are fighting
over the division of the treasure each wanting it all, one evening all
the treasure disappears along with NPC C

NPC A & B ask for a writ against C they offer 1/2 of C share as a
reward

Find NPC C and execute, the finding of NPC C should be fairly easy

Enjoy
