The Great House Shift
By Final Reclaimer

After the Nerevarine there came many shifts within Vvardenfell. The people, who had lived in fear their whole lives, finally could begin moving from guarded areas and cities, and become what they wanted, instead of whatever they could scrape a living off of. The inhabitance no longer had to be rough, brave mercenaries or poor civilians living on the island because they had no where else to go, but proud locals who loved their land, and supported it with a sense of patriotic pride. This would alter the Great Houses from their vital balance, and split not only Vvardenfell, but all of Morrowind.

The Houses were always in a dangerous state, always ready to erupt into war. The Houses always have held each other as foes or allies, but never to the point of uniting against each other in open war. This is exactly what is happening in this time, so I will narrow down only to the events leading up to the war and the changes in the landscape.

The landscape of Vvardenfell was boggy in the west, islands covering the south, east, and northern central regions, and the rest, making up almost the entire island, the volcanic mountains called the Ashlands. The Ashlands dominated the region for many generations, but after the Blight was destroyed this region began to shrink. Red Mountain is still a volcanic region, though without the Blight is it considerably smaller. The regions that are now starting to appear in place of the Ashlands are now tall grassy regions, filled with golden fields, but not much more vegetation due to the fact that it was recently a volcanic region.

The Houses are now becoming tense. Their cities are growing an expanding due to the population boom. Cities are becoming wider and expanding their walls because they no longer live in fear and suspicion, letting them separate from the tight city-centers and making them more welcoming and less weary of their other House-members. Coastal cities are growing due to the new need for transportation to the island, and the wary Houses are gearing up for an almost unknown type of war for the Dunmer: the navy.

The main city change is Ald?rhun. It is no longer in complete Redoran control, often being invaded by Hlaalu. Balmora is expanding in whatever ways it can, Hlaalu thriving form Redoran?s fall. Suran is experiencing a shift due to the new need for ports and the rise of Hlaalu. Balmora is by far the largest city on the island, Suran being the southern power. Dagon Fel is in ruin due to the collapse of Nords in Morrowind. Khuul is becoming a fortified city, though showing little more growth than the other Vvardenfell cities. It is now an important protection to the island, being a prime spot for the Nords to invade and for Dunmer troops to be transported around the island or shipped to the western mainland border. Telvanni is to busy with their own power and trying to close the Oblivion gates to show much more than a flat out boom in Sadrith Mora and fortification of the island, now dense with the remains of the Grazelands nomads and the frightened Telvanni civilians.

House Indoril is only being upheld by Redoran, and is dependant on their allied House. They are now forced to follow them into anything, or else face their own collapse. Indoril gives Redoran the support they need to continue with the traditional ways. They play a little role in Vvardenfell.

House Dres is more stable than Indoril, though relies on Hlaalu for support in Vvardenfell. They, along with Hlaalu, have accepted the King?s new ways and are loyal to him.

House Telvanni is occupied with the Oblivion gates, though have agreed to support Redoran in an open war. They supply the magical needs of the alliance, though they play little else in the civil breakdown.

House Redoran if falling. They are sending all of their troops to the western border to fight back the Nordic invaders. This has caused the collapse of Dagon Fel, now being a large prison facility for Redoran?s Nordic prisoners. This emptied Ald?rhun for only a short while, but long enough for Oblivion to make its large vcitory. Hlaalu often raids the city, never letting it build itself back to glory. Redoran is barely holding its hold in Vvardenfell, only having a few key ports on the island. They are readying what troops they can to invade Suran and Balmora.

House Hlaalu is on an upward path. Their population has at least tripled, and their mainland civilians have begun flocking to Vvardenfell. They are supported by the King, so hold a near complete hold on Vvardenfell. The are secretly readying a large army to advance on the Redoran ports, and traps to keep the Redoran navy trapped in the rivers the plan to invade. Their intelligence over their enemies is almost too great, and war is imminent.

Interesting stuff, but I doubt very much that you will find support for wiping Ald'ruhn from the map.

I like some of your ideas too, but methinks Aldruhn should still be intact. Maybe under Hlaalu rule, but it's not like they would simply trash pre-existing structures. It would serve as a great base against the Redoran stronghold, so it should remain occupied.

EDIT: I didn't find anything about Ald-Ruhn in the CS... but I did find this interesting line:

"Orcs don't ride horses. They eat horses. And sometimes I think they're the smart ones. Wait, maybe it's Dunmer who eat horses."

my thinking on this is that there is no way in hell that you could make me live in a place that was literally demolished by the legions of hell, no pun intended.

it was also be a hard cover up for the governmet. the King would have to explain why he had let Hlaalu claim the land. an act like that would lead to a collapse, and even the King doesnt want open war.

if it would be under Hlaalu rule it wouldnt matter i guess-the point is that Redoran got wiped out by Oblivion, the structural rema$ins could leave use for Hlaalu. my point is that Redoran lost Ald'rhun, and i have back-up that this infact did happen.

I believe that we already discussed this earlier and Ald'ruhn was attacked by Daedra (according to rumors in Cyrodiil). The extent of that attack or the extent of the damage inflicted was not defined by any credible source. Therefore, Batman, who is in charge of Ald'ruhn, gets to decide how much damage was done. Either way, I believe that the stance here is that Ald'ruhn survived and remains the Redoran capital during the House War. Venim's son and Jiub fought valiantly in the city's defense; Jiub died and Venim survived to lead the Redoran.

The theory that I personally am pushing is that the attack on Ald'ruhn was the doing not of Dagon but of the Astronach Cult (unknown in detail until a later expansion of our mod's MQ). That, however, has also not been finalized and likely will not be until we are doing dialogue for around Ald'ruhn.

I am an avid Redoran, and given the new Lore I suggest that we all have to accept history that is fact.

I hate the idea that Aldruhn is devastated, but it is exciting and makes sense - that the now former Council Houase of Redoran should be attacked by the forces of Oblivion, and that the Hlaalu would take advantage of this in the power vacuum created by the collapse of the Tribunal etc.

As for Helseth? He alll but attacked Almalexia himself - certainly did all he could in the matter of setting up the goblin horde...so this is in character.

Maybe you should consideer what might have happened to the Legion's Forts as part of this = who has or might get control. There is such a fort just accross the road from Ald'ruhn so what happened there? Did the Legion come to the aid of the Redorans? Did the Hlaalu try to take control of it etc?

aaarg, gotta log off - interesting times eh?

i wrote a description of the cities and how they changed, but never posted it because that made the post too big. Pelgiad, Ebonheart, Fort Buckmoth, Fort Moonmoth, and Wolverine Hall are the Imperial sanctioned places.

Pelgiad- the fort was claimed as a neutral zone by the empire. The city was fortified as a Hlaalu fort after Hlaalu invaded, and anyone who leaves after they claimed sanctuary is captured and sold to Skyrim, in secret, if they are Redoran. Other enemies are inprisoned for a short while, and allies are escorted to Balmora. Anyone inside the Fort is safe, though the population inside is growing and it is becoming a disease ridden forst. The city is said to be a pride to Hlaalu.

Ebonheart-this was granted by the King as Hlaalu protected, and the Imperials again claimed it neutral. Many Redoran supporters have 'gone away', and it is a large Hlaalu port. the Imperials occassionaly repopulate the castle.

Buckmoth and Moonmoth-claimed as neutral, they are both surronded. Hlaalu surronds Moonmoth, Redoran Buckmoth.

Wolverine Hall-this is to deep into Telvanni territory to be a war zone, though many Hlaalu spies frequent the underground factions inside the castle.

I edited the original post, changes in bold.

this was only a quick scetch of the shift, something i typed up to get it worked with

if you have anything else, anyone, please feel free to post it. if this helps the project, it helps it. if it doesn't i did what i could. this is just an attempted look into what would have happened to the houses on Vvardenfell.
