I like your work. I haven't had time to read the tutorial but the work I've seen is well done.
Final effort for this weekend - Kielanai - 01-21-2007
Thank you. Well, if these are okay, then I think the next thing I need to work on is plan for the number of types of outfits, so that I can be a better judge of which meshes to match with which textiles. I put together 3-4 lower class attempts as starters for that group.
I don't know if a mesh has been made for working class like this so I just adapted the ninpo attire. Loose sleeves and leggings on kimono and hakama are bound with cords or strips of cloth to keep them out of the way or dry. (Or they would be removed to just work in yukata and fundoshi in hot weather.) This could be something a craftsman, farmer, or woodcutter would wear in cooler weather.
Ninpo
And these were attempts at lower class yukata for warm weather and a heavy weave kimono for cooler weather. I'm trying to keep seasonal (or in the case of the game, regional) differences in mind because I remember loving the winter clothing of Solstheim compared to Morrowind, but was disappointed to find the people of Bruma wearing the same short sleeves as people in Anvil. ?( Time saver, I know, but it killed some of the coldness for me.

Cool, i like it :goodjob:
We don't need the female clothing to have clan colors, they can have any color and pattern.
EDIT: i wanted to post sooner, but sometimes i can't connect with the forums... crappy internet X(

Actually, if a female is in a clan, she should have access to clothes in clan colors. I think that we might want to have other choices available for non clan members though.
Your thinking on that is great Keilanai.

If a female is in the clan's military, then she needs to wear clan colors (for easy friend/foe identification) and not any kimono would do, but she would have to wear a military uniform.
If she belongs to a samurai clan, but is not in the army, then it's perfectly ok for her to wear whatever she wants (a princess should wear a very pretty kimono, not a uniform with clan colors).
This reminds me of "Aizu's women's brigade" awesome female samurai warriors

I would like to have samurai like them in Akavir
Knifeblossom Clan ya ... - Kielanai - 01-23-2007
I have only male kamishimo mesh, so I could make either hakama/kimono in military style for female warriors, or I would need a female version of kamishimo mesh.
I have also to offer an alternate Knifeblossom uniform that might look a little more "official". I have been collecting mon among my textiles. (Mon are symbols that represent something and are often used in Japanese design.) And then I thought that maybe a good use for the simple outline mon would be the military, keeping the detailed textiles for the town people to wear. So, I did another sample for Knifeblossom, using just a recolor of Corthian's original texture in red, but then pasting the mon on the back for identification in battle. The mon and color will also match the kimono. What do you think? Is this a better idea for battle identification of each clan -- for each clan to have a mon as well as a color? If so, I can adjust the size of the mon, cut it out of it's background, or adjust the color (like if you want red a little darker or faded).
Updated screens
Also, I have finished with the "autumn" starter collection! There are three outfits (1 for each gender) for each class -- total of 18, plus the Knifeblossom samples. I did not post pictures of all of them, but there are samples from each level of class. I found some good historical prints to use as inspiration for the design and color combinations. The one called "Ten Kuroi" ("Dot Dark") was inspired by an old samurai print and Kodama's statement about wearing black. I am also learning more about how to erase certain areas and paste fabric on fabric in cut-away areas. I can make multiple layers at the neck that way, but it's very time-consuing so I can't decide whether it's worth it for such a small area. Upperclass really should have many colors and designs in many layers, though. So, I will think about it some more and keep trying to learn ways to make it more efficient. I wish I could just use a pencil on the monitor. Too bad I don't have a graphics tablet. This is really making me want one! :poorme:

Well those look outstanding really! :goodjob:

You are doing great. I guess I should make some more meshes. Right now when it come to new meshes the things I feel are a priority are female kamishimo, kimono wore over the kimono/hakama outfit (shinsengumi style), female ninja outfit (shouldn't be too hard), and the long vest type things that are worn over armor. I should get to work. I can't let you be held back by my laziness.
Laziness?? - Kielanai - 01-23-2007
How can you say you are lazy? I've seen the other stuff you're doing with weapons and buildings. You are definitely not lazy! Everything you're making is amazing, ne? I recently saw the temples you were working on with Mirrored, and I think you're both doing such a great job! :applause:
Besides, if I make three outfits for three classes for two genders for four weather climates, that's 72 outfits! And that's not including clan uniforms. I have a looooong way to go with things to keep me busy. I just happened to have extra time this week and tend to obsess when I learn how to do something new. (Also, I've been wanting something like this for a long time to dress my own PC in. Hehehe ...) So, thank you. That means a lot to get approval of the original designer.
I have been pairing kamishimo with long kimono for court/daily life purposes and priestess hakama for those women who might be involved in martial arts or other physical activity by choice. So, I could stick with that for uniforms if you don't want to make another kamishimo mesh. I would love to see haori, though I imagine it would be difficult to make the thin mesh. Middle class, I'm trying to stick to hakama and kimono with a few ninpo-coverted-farmer-type outfits. And lower class is getting that "ninpo" influence more heavily to keep those sleeves out of the way for work. I may try to make a texture template that looks more like binding with the cord, but I'm picking other options until I can do that. I'm trying to decide if little details like that are worth the effort. I spent a lot of time creating three layers at the neck of one kimono, only to put it in game and two of the three came out barely noticeable. So, ... still experimenting with my limitations.

Corthian, the vest that goes over armor is called a jinbaori, you can see detailed pictures here: http://www.toraba.com/sono-0506-3169.htm
Kielanai, your work looks awesome... the black outfit looks very nice :goodjob:
I was thinking about adding mon to the uniforms, but for some strange reason it slipped my mind... so it would be perfect if you add them to the uniforms, feel free to decide the mon for each clan :check:
I suggest that you give the kiku mon a gold color so you can get rid of the white square on the back of the outfit.
...... 72 outfits excluding the clan uniforms...... :pop:
That's a lot!
But the more outfits we have, the better the mod will be, thank you Kielanai
