Okay! - Kielanai - 07-21-2007

Almost done. Cool These books are taking longer than I thought. Might be my only finished project today. (And I hear thunder, so I need to hurry off of the computer!)

I have rewritten the namahage story so that it is told from 3 perspectives. The book, most recent version, is told from "beastfolk" view. I didn't say which beastfolk, but I had the TangMo in mind since they have the most problems with the snow demons, according to other Akavir books. It's worded so it could be any beast race except the Tsaesci. The Tsaesci are now mentioned in a new twist -- which I will write to you in email about when I send the scripts for you to read. Basically, this beast writer is blaming the humans for their trouble with the demons. Some outside reference can go along with this book to point toward the second telling found among human ruins or the human village itself.

The bamboo scroll is told from human point of view and is most like the first copy that I shared. It is meant to be written before humans became hidden/extinct from wide population -- like a grandmother passing on a legend to her grandchild to explain a tradition that has been kept for many years. It mentions a general location for the PC to quest toward the third book.

If the PC follows the directions in the scroll, it could lead up the mountain's stone steps to a shrine, where he/she will find the dragon bone inscription. This third telling is the oldest and most valueable. It was written by a priest who had first-hand experience witnessing the events, so it has yet another angle on telling the story. It also names a burial mound and the mountain if you want to extend the rewards or quest further (like something in the tomb of the man the shrine is dedicated to).

Anyway, these are just ideas for whoever designs a quest. Feel free to alter as needed after reading, or alter reading as needed to fit quest.

I experimented with dragon bone idea, and here is what I came up with. (Excuse Kielanai in her pirate dress. She is feeling adventurous at the moment.) I don't know how big it can get, but it looks okay in 3rd person, kept it's size after pick-up, dropped without collision problems and functioned well for reading. (Will check again on the collision thing to make sure it doesn't sink after I leave and return. My lute does that, but its collision is based on a bottle. The clavical is still a clavical.)

Dragon Bone 3 Person

Here is the dragon bone 1st person. The writing gets blurry being that big that close, so it will be up to the designer of the quest to judge how big is too big. If you want it big, it will have to be placed in the game world, rather than a chest.

Dragon Bone 1 Person

Here is a Japanese proverb I included just to fill the small folded bamboo scroll I made. One of the miscellaneous notes that be used to clutter a place.

Proverb

And here are the updated scrolls next to the dragon bone. There are 3 total: one with rolled strips, one small one with folded strips, and one large one with open strips. I put the vampire cat story on the large open one. But all three forms are reusable for other materials. Only the namahage book and the namahage bone are not transferable textures.

Bamboo Scroll variety

What's left before I pack it up ... I only have to check names to sub for the vampire story. I think we mentioned a place a long time ago, so I will recheck this thread for that, unless you have another name in mind. I need a name for the place of the vampire cat legend other than Nabeshima, and I need a royal or noble family name. Once that is done, I can zip it and mail the contents. I would wait until I had several books, but I don't think I should take chances on not being able to completely finish and send these fews, since my computer is fua-fua again. Confusedhrug:

Oh!, and forgot to mention, the writing on the scrolls ... it's just a sappy love letter type thing. It wasn't meant to mean anything, but like the writing on the dragon bone provide a visual "full" effect that something important is there. It's too chopped to actually read on the meshes.

Edit: Okay, I looked up the names we mentioned before. Nagasaka is the one I was thinking of using instead of Nabeshima, but now I'm not sure that would work. You were going to give that name to rebuilt Septimia, which means it's Tsaesci. A story about a vampire cat seems out of place among vampire snakes, ne? I will just forward that story with the names to be replaced in (). It can be edited once the local maps are more defined. Good? I will go ahead and package the zip.

- Kodama - 07-21-2007

Yeah, just package the zip, i will come up with a place and name for it later :check:

The Dragon bone looks just about the right size to me :check:

And the scrolls look great! :goodjob:

Thank you. ^_^ - Kielanai - 07-28-2007

I just remembered another change, too. I mention god of thunder Raijin, I think? Another god or daedra prince should be used instead, in snow demon stories, when the lore is ready.

- Kodama - 07-28-2007

When the lore is ready?
Big Grin That might take a while, we don't have a lore master anymore, and the Kamal might not be included untill version 2.0 of the Akavir mod.
We will just have to wait and see about that.

- Ysne - 07-30-2007

I also suspect that Cog may not be coming back. I'd take on the job of loremaster, but I have trouble keeping all of that straight in my head. And that's on my good days. Throw in fibro fog plus pain meds and I'm a lost cause for the day.

Lore ... - Kielanai - 08-07-2007

I'm usually pretty good with keeping lore straight and weaving stories together, but with Akavir it would be difficult for me for a few reasons. For one thing, there is not much published on it by Bethesda. That makes it wide open to interpretation, and everyone will have different interpretations. It's also difficult to say how much of real Asia to put into fantasy world when it comes to myth and monster. And then since I have already written fan-fiction on Akavir for my Kojima mod, I have my own mythology and culture set pretty well in my head that would be difficult to push aside for a different interpretation. That's why I give basic story, but then permission to change it as needed to fit this mod's interpretation of lore.

Speaking of that, I have decided to finish my original plan for Kojima to make a village. I spent part of last weekend and some of today working on it. Kodama said he would like to find a place for Kojima on the Akavir map, but after working on it today and seeing this message about lore, I don't know if that would work. You are, of course, welcome to use any part of Kojima that you wish for the Akavir mod. But some of the literature and customs might differ from what you had in mind for a human settlement from Akavir. Anyway, that is something to discuss later. For now, here are updates of this WIP. This is version 7 -- not released yet because not finished yet. Hope for this to be my final version and stop working on this mod. I have done the alchemy shop and tavern. Next is the clothing shop.

Akaviri Kojima Machi

For the clothing shop, I want to redo the kimono. I released four kimono sets using Corthian's old mesh. He has since released new meshes so I would like to convert the old kimono. I would only release meshes that have already been public released. Is this okay? Once I see how this works out, I will make some new textures for all project meshes I have.

And I have a favor to ask of anyone that can help. Someone has released models for paper lanterns, but I tried to retexture and it turned out mostly white. I have not had time to learn UV map or any 3D program, but I think the problem is related to that. If someone could put one working lantern in the game for me, I would gladly retexture some extra lantern for the project. Big Grin

RE: Lore ... - ra5946 - 08-07-2007

I've made several lantern models. Are you wanting a hanging lantern or one to carry? If you have a specific one in mind, post a pic and I'll get that to you.

Lantern - Kielanai - 08-08-2007

Well, the one I was trying to retexture on my own is called "Paper Lanterns on Ropes" by jcd13.

Here is what it looks like in Nifskope when I texture it.
Color Lamp

Here is what it looks like in the game. One sphere is on (near the "sunset" light), and the other is off. But they both look black. And it's not because of lack of normal maps.
Black Lamp

?( No idea what I'm doing wrong.

I will take any lantern hand-outs, though. Big Grin I was just getting tired of using only CRT dragon lamps for lighting kojima buildings. Other than kimono mesh from Corthian, there are no new meshes in my mod. (Lots of retextures, but hardly any new meshes because I can't make them.) I was thinking a paper lantern or two would be a nice change for lighting.

And I am so stupid ... :bash: I was offered to merge with a new border mod to make the back of the island more free, since it against edge of game map. And it works great! But I was so stupid -- I didn't back up first. I tried to merge the files, and the merge utility ate my kojima esp!!! I did have a back up from before I did the tavern and the seamstress shop, but that was three days of work gone. So, I have spent all of today remaking the tavern. -_-* Now I have to remake the seamstress shop. THEN I can trade off time making clothes and finishing the rest of the island. Yareyare ...

I will wait until I am completely done and backed up before trying ever to merge again. Still, I would eventually like to merge with the new borders mod that was offered and beautiful people so my NPC's don't look so plastic.

Edits: Added photo links. Also I realize the code is not entered correctly in the Nifskope shot. That was corrected after the screen was taken, so that's not the problem either.

- Ysne - 08-08-2007

Its great to hear from you again Keilanai.

I'm sorry about the absentmindedly missing a back up. That happens to me too once in awhile. I refuse to call myself stupid though. Its part of being a truly creative person that we don't always remember the small, but important, details such as backing up all the time.

Revisions ... - Kielanai - 08-09-2007

Well, I think I was too anxious (and definitely inexperienced) at the merge utility. I will try again, but AFTER I make a backup. -_-*

Meanwhile, today I finally caught up on the work that I lost. (Three days to originally make it. Two days to redo it, since I didn't lose my models, only esp.) I am FINALLY ready to try to make some new clothing. ^_^ I will experiment with new public release meshes first and see if it is easy or difficult to convert old textures. I think I will need to remake some templates, so I might just leave the old kimono "as is", if that is the case. I would rather spend precious time making new things. I made some new furnishings, new foods, and new drinks, too. (Kojima izakaya now sells gohan, nori, ocha, and two kinds of sake.)

Sorekara, ... kochira Sakura Aoi-chan desu. Big Grin Aoi Sakura is Kielanai's young business partner that runs the wafukuya (traditional clothing shop) on the beach. She loves making traditional clothing, but she also likes things that are a little ... different. Kielanai makes sure she sells good variety in her shop or Aoi might end up selling goth/Visual Kei attire, or something. :pop: Oh, and she loves the color blue. ... Can you tell?
