RE: Thanks! - ra5946 - 08-21-2007

I can't view the screenshots at work, so I have a question about the teapot- Is it actually glowing, like my lanterns do, or is it just really shiny?

1. If it's glowing, get rid of the glowmap (texturename_g). If it doesn't have a glowmap, open the nif in Nifskope. Check the nimaterialproperty
and make sure the emmissive slider is completely black/dark.

2 If it's shiny. Make the alpha channel of the normal map (texturename_n) darker. You can get rid off the alpha all together by saving the normal map texture as a DXT 1 no alpha. If it's still shiny, open up nifskope and check the NiTexturingProperty. Make sure it's set to apply modulate, not apply hilight.

Hope that helps

RE: Thanks! - Kielanai - 08-21-2007

Hehe. True. Inbred is not good. Wink

Well, according to the story, no one knew about the portal -- not even Kielanai. She just thought it was odd that a bridge would face out to sea and lead nowhere. It wasn't until much later that she put the clues together and realized it was a bridge to Akavir. But aside from that, according to the Pocket Guide to the Empire, there are pockets of Akaviri descendents in Tamriel who uphold that culture in their traditions. Kojima could be one of those places, even without my background for the island being a pirate base. But in honesty, I wasn't interested in 100% lore correct when I wrote the story. I mean it crosses over into Forgotten Realms and includes a Drow playing himself off as a very dark Dunmer because I made an old D&D NPC favorite as a companion for her in my game. Tongue But any kind of "fan art form" is going to stray from lore correctness to some extent because it isn't official and we're making it up as we go along. The difference is in making it believeable.

So, I realized putting Kojima inside Akavir would change the island's story, ... and I don't want to change it. It's personal to the character. I made this mod for her. She is the inspiration behind the design. It was afterwards that I decided to share it in case someone else might enjoy it, too. I never imagined it would do well because it was my first attempt to make a mod. Seeing it in top 150 and on other message boards is shocking for me. O_O

So, anyway, that is the first problem. The second is public use. The reason Kojima is an open source is because Bethesda has allowed us to mod with their materials openly, and many other modders out there have shared their stuff openly so the pool of resources gets better and bigger. Imagine Bethesda saying, "You can make mods, ... but don't use our stuff." There would be much fewer mods for us to play, ne? So, this is just my personal feelings on it. I am thankful to those who offer free resources, and this is my way of giving something back. But I realize people feel differently about their creations, so I don't want to put anything on Kojima that can't be freely reused.

Considering those things, Kojima really should exist separately from Akavir. Much as I would love to have more models to work with, I should probably stick to using models that have public permissions. I don't want to police and protect Kojima from theft. (That is bothersome and impossible on the Internet, anyway.) I've had one person accuse me of stealing my own mod from his friend, but I answered that my real home items were in the mod, so if I had to prove it's mine I could. However, it's open resource so if his friend wants to say he made Kojima ... it doesn't matter. People downloading mods are already familiar with who the original authors are. Imagine someone else trying to claim Ren's hair. keh ...

However, ... ^_^ since Kojima is an open resource, if someone else wants to change it, they have permission. If someone else can get good use out of it, great! Maybe they can make it better. My only concern is that credits are given to original designers when they are used. That means you could strip my lore from Kojima and do whatever you want to move it to Akavir. I just can't be the one to do it because I'm too "set" in what I've established for it already.

... And tea plants do have harvestable leaves! One of the game ingredients (Lady's Smock?) looks a little like a tea branch. So, I will be recoloring and trying to come up with new combinations for that. No time for teapots today, though. Will put that on tomorrow's list. They are glossy like the glass weapons, and I've already tried the property sliders and DXT1. I'll recheck some of the other stuff you mentioned, though. Thanks! ^_^

No LOD's. I tried to do that and managed to get tree tops visible in the middle of the sea, but then gave up and reinstalled the back-up mod. It did something that I didn't like, but I can't remember what ...

- Ysne - 08-21-2007

We will continue discussing how this will work. It would solve one of the problems with getting back and forth between Akavir and Kojima should we go that route. You do provide a very good explanation as to why it wasn't used by the empire.

- Kodama - 08-21-2007

What you said about "pockets of Akaviri descendents in Tamriel" is most certainly true.
But an island that's not on the official lore map? Nah!
But hey, like you said: "I wasn't interested in 100% lore correct" Wink That's why i would like it to be in Akavir, so the lore freaks can have a 100% lore correct Kojima.
So like i said before, you just keep making your Kojima mod, i will move it to Akavir, that's no problem.

I know how you feel about resources, I feel the same way, that's why we have already released the Japanese bows and clothing.
However, when i see other people getting credit for our modellers work, it just does'nt feel right Sad
Eventually, all of our resources will be made available to everyone, just not right now.
But you can still work with some of our resources that will be available to everyone, like a couple of armors or weapons, and maybe some buildings EDIT: And a bamboo speedtree! Big Grin

Did Corthian already give you the resources? You can use our houses/ interiors and a shrine if you want to (i don't mind if other people put that in their own mods).

P.S. I don't know what models have collision, collision can be added by Ra if you need it.

- ra5946 - 08-21-2007

Any model I've already released can be used by anyone, so feel free to use my models Kielanai.

I totally understand what Kodama is saying about releasing all the models. Everything I make will also have several "private" versions that will only be released in the Akavir mod.

You could put a script on your "bridge to nowhere" that would make it only appear at certain times. If you're interested in that, I'll post the scprit and you can just copy and paste it.

Yeah, i just want to keep good stuff for the final release Big Grin

- Corthian - 08-21-2007

Here is my Tsaesci Race. The race is unplayable and meant to be used only as NPC. It contains the tail mesh and three Tsaesci armors. To be used properly, the Tsaesci can only be equipped with the tail and armor included with the esp, if not than the rigging will be screwed up.

Tsaesci Race

Here is my Architecture files. My meshes use Cloud Ruler Temple textures.

Architexture Files

I hope these wont you give you any trouble.

Souyo! - Kielanai - 08-22-2007

I made some hachimaki today. Big Grin Now I'm ready for anything. (There is leather (original from Kafei (? check name spellings)), white, white sun, black sun, black dragon, and white sakura. I tried to put kanji on them, but the band split and mirrored the image, so it came out backwards. :/ No kanji for hachimaki. The symbols came out good, though. (Very small, but good.)

Okay, I just wanted to be sure about those things. We can discuss the changes for Akavir Kojima later. Right now I have to go with my heart for finishing it. And I understand both sides of feelings because I have stuff I have not released that is just for me. And I have made some things only for the project. But it was hard to remember to remove them from Kojima since Kielanai uses whatever I make. So I made a tavern just outside of Anvil's main gate where I can stash things made that Kojima can't have. That mod will not be released because it is more like warehouse. I have also an alchemist cottage -- the place where Kielanai was raised in Weye away from Kojima after pirates attacked it.

Corthian, thanks so much for the files. ^_^ I don't know how to put new races or animals in yet, but I really want to do that. I want to make the NPC's mostly Han, and add some animals. (Right now they are all Breton.) So, I will experiment with that once the main interiors and exteriors are done. I may need lots of help for that. :/

Ra, yay more files! ^_^ Of course I love getting files. Do you have a page that you archive them on? Or just send them out whenever done? Wow, the bridge script sounds interesting. O_O! I'm not sure that would work for this version of Kojima because it acts as a teleport for the PC. But that would be a really cool idea for the Akavir version.

And what is a speed tree? It sounds like a tree has been doing skooma. The whomping willow in Harry Potter comes to mind ...
