Synthesis Machine - InsanitySorrow - 03-14-2007

I am going to start on a script for this machine that will encompass all we have talked about or just the best ideas for using it. I think taking this appraoch will help me develop the script easier becuase i know exactly what it will be needed for.

Now i need to know the ideas for the use of this machine, like fixing things or whatever. If its good and we can get it to work i will add it to the list below.

Synthesis Machine Tasks:

*Item Synthesis
*Weapon Synthesis
*Repairing Worn/Broken Parts

Limitations:

*Weight
*Power Source
*Only Fixind Dwemer Stuff

RE: Sythesis Machine - bob196045 - 03-14-2007

Repair and Duplicate and Manufacture

Repair: Repair of worn or broken dwemer parts, this should be limited to dwemer items as the dwemer would have no reason to fix anything but dwemer stuff.

This should require the adding of material: Metal for metallic stuff, Wood for wood stuff, etc etc etc

place the item in and the metal, wood.... and click repair...chug chug chug diing... a fixed item

I really really really really think we should limit the repairing of items to the dwemer construct parts we want to use to fixing the constructs Smile

*****************************************************
Duplicate: Place an item in the machine chug chug chug ding...a duplicate (non magical)

Again it should require the addition of raw materials an Ebony Sword should require a piece of raw ebony, a strip of leather. <(example)
******************************************************
Manufacture:

In this case limited to the making of the grenades

My humble suggestions

Enjoy
Bob

I agree with bob in having many limitations...
the Dwemer weren't exactly at the point of creating from naught as they seem to be able to do with food in Star Trek... they seemed a archaic culture with a methodical and diligent mindset, and powerful metaphysical-technology... almost liek the Covenant in Halo... advanced and powerful, yet using tactics and preferences thatclearly show deep connections with archaic roots....

I mean, looks at the weaponry and such, if theywere at a point of super technology, the idea of sending armored warriors is absurd... just keep creating animiculi and wear down the enemy... most run in fear anyhow...

making it too powerful would seem out-of-place in my opinion, too sci fi...
Dwemer, I see almostlike ancient Persians... with awesome technologies...

take my opinion for what its worth Smile

Hmm what energy would it have to tap into though? Portable or not, you can't just produce stuff with no added energy. It might be pretty cool if a player had to set the thing down and tap into working steam vents in dwemer ruins. Maybe even restart some boilers, using parts he previously made.

The limitations are pretty good. The question is what cool stuff we could make that isn't already in-game. Or what we could do with it. Bridge fixing is one idea. Boiler and machine fixing is another. The hard part might be making a script that isn't unweildly. I'd suggest cracking open the scripts to existing item- making mods. They work (obviously) and some of them have hundreds of possible items (granted, it's just variations of bows, arrows, armors, ect)

The important thing is that if you use those scripts, you don't have to make one from scratch.
Here's another thing to consider. It might be cool if we actually made power supply a large factor. Like had a certain flow of power for each ruin, and then having ways to increase that, such as fixing more boilers.
But you can't create certain items at lower power levels.

KuKulza brings up the good point that the dwemer were not gods, and certainly were not trekkies. This machine should be large, and somewhat unweildly. The hard part is that it's not very portable then. Logically, it should weigh more than something such as a claymore, which can go up to 80+ weight. Having a "portable" box that weighs 200 pounds isn't going to be very effective.

So the question now, do we suspend reality? Or do we make it super heavy, or give some explaination (magick) (i mean they DID tap the power of a GOD)

- KuKulzA - 03-15-2007

a possibility... is that you find notes written in Dwemeric, and with a translation into Dunmeric (Daedric) alphabet... *

and the notes have something like:

Lord High Councilor Voryn Dagoth,
Our creating machine has proven to be a partial success. While it can create things with certain key ingredients and an immense amount of magicka, it cannot be moved around. However, you my great friend, have requested personal inspection of the machine. I regret not being able to at this time. Nords still linger along some of the wilder lands between the Velothi Mountains and Vvardenfell, and the unweidly contraption easily breaks when carried in rough terrain. I know, your people traveled far and wide withseekers and emissaries and on the backs of guars and porters gathered all of the necessary materials, and for that I owe you. However, if the skirmishes between rogue Chimeri nomads, Nords, and Dwemer freeholds stop for a time, I can arrange an escort for youto my clanstead. I myself will be heading back to Star-Wound before the next season, and I hope to discuss it with you there. My apologies for writing this in Dwemeric, but I am in a hurry for a Redoran delegation has come, I hope my scribe translates this well.
~King Dumac

and then in Dunmer lingo underneath...

* We know House Dagoth and the Dwemer had a friendship, and that the Dagoth lands were partly within the Vvardenfell kingdom of the Dwemer, so their relations tended to be good... though of course the Dagoths did side with Nerevar against the Dwemer... imagine what a struggle they must have had defending the Dwemer's northern border for generations and then fighting them right next to each other... then the great betrayal....

and then nearby a note....

Kagrenac and Dumac have given me permission to use this machine and try to fix it. The Tonal Architects and I have carefully applied longevity spells to this machine, we hopethis will keep it together, and by the God's blood it better.I have put many hours into it but it still is quite unwieldy. I leave it for now, for they are calling for militia, there is a war starting, and I am fearful, all the Chimer are united, and Resdayn is falling apart...
If only I had the time to retro-fit a spider centurion to carry the machine, then at least it would be mobile... I have started on the retrofitting in my room but I still need tubing to finish it off and hopefully the suspension will work....

- Seniosh - 03-15-2007

Hmm, an interesting idea. Never thought of the relations between Dumac and the other houses. More plans for historic delegations should be planned out in the lore section. Imagine the frenzied diplomacy leading up to the war betweent he dunmer and dwemer! There must have been a massive amount of failed negotiation. If we can get a writer, it'd be interesting to capture the months leading up to the war. (dwemer and pre-dunmer were friends right?)

But anyways, interesting idea to mount it on a centurion. You'd have to do it yourself i assume, and it'd be kind of cool to have a walking machine follow you around. Possibly you'd have to protect it, if walking from city to city. You'd also have to be able to give it simple commands, such as 'wait' 'come' 'activate' Also, if you make it a creature, it can't be aggressive, and nothing should attack it.

- KuKulzA - 03-15-2007

do you want a writer? like for lore and all...?

cause I am one of the few who writes for TES4 Vvardenfell...

and if ya think about it... Vvardenfell should also have tonsof records and correspondence....

so maybe between Dumac and Star-Wound... there can be letters and records... Confusedhrug:
and since I's willin' to do it for both mods, we can make the world seem much more connected...

please man, Morrowind is one of my lore expertise, other two being Black marsh and Dreugh
bob can vouch for me Big Grin

- Seniosh - 03-15-2007

If you feel inspired, and think of something to write, i don't see why not. I'm sure nobody would say no to a bunch of lore-correct books that add tons of depth to the game.

An idea for that would obviously be to have each record tell a slightly different story, due to the ever-present bias each house and race has.

If you'll make books and letters, i'm sure they'll get in game. You'll just have to remind us to place them appropriately (make sure they don't slip through the cracks) I for one, would definitely read them, cause i'm the kid who's read every book in oblivion twice.

Of course you'd have to check with insanitysorrow, but i can't imagine he'd say no to lore-correct added depth (also, putting them in-game will have to be arranged, as noted earlier, i'm one of the few modders here it seems, so i could do some of it)

Certainly Do

I and the rest of us will appreciate it and the idea for all the background and relations will provide more interest. So yeah knock ya self out

Seniosh - I will get the mesh link again and some plans and if you want to i could give you permission to work on a whole level of Dumac. So you will incorporate our ideas and your own into the level and its design. I know Bo196045 is working on the TES 3 version and this will stick to some familiarity but dies not have to be exactly the same because that would be boring. So if you are up for it then you can have a level to design and work on yourself with ideas from Bob and me and everyone else and your own of course.

As for the machine well i really really agree with limiting its use and how it runs and how portable it is. I will look for a script that can be used as a basis.

- Seniosh - 03-15-2007

I'll do a level of dumac. Just give me the files and tell me what you want. If i can get a copy of dumac for TES3, i'll check that out for inspiration.

Glad to be of service! Big Grin
