The Temple: holy war against crumbling faith
Sorry about my shaky-at-best participation in all things vvardenfell. I've been working 45 hour work weeks and have 0 quality time to myself. I did want to pop in and lurk a bit, maybe put forth some random Ideas.
I'm sure by now you guys are drowning in a flood of "random ideas" but what's the harm in a few more words.

So I checked through the forums but I couldn't tell If you guys where planning on having the Temple as a faction in Vvardenfell.
I know that a degrading faction who's only gods are all dead and missing is a little tricky to navigate. I also know that many people arn't feeling the whole xenophobic racist zealot thing.
but you've gotta admit, the temple is one of the most culturally interesting aspects of Dunmer culture.

anyway I figured Id throw down a few Ideas incase you guys where planning on including the faction. Alas as of right now I have allot on my plate in real life (and in game since I'm STILL doing the alchemy guild) but if any interested modders want to use any or all of these ideas, please, feel free!

I think that the Temple quests should start with the same Pilgrimage to the seven graces. This is a very important aspect to the Temple belief system and to exclude it wouldn't be lore consistent. but after that you really get to run wild with it.

Early Quests:
Summary: The Temple is hurting. They're loosing supporters fast. The faith is deteriorating and politically the Temple is loosing its footholds on the already slippery slope of Dunmer history. In the beginning of your Temple service your main goals will be to keep the word of the temple alive.
this could include:
Passing out handfuls of propaganda pamphlets and texts to citizens in towns
Spreading word of mouth around town and recruiting prospective members
roughing up anti-temple sympathists or bribing them to stop spreading their blasphemy

Later Quests:
Summary: Now your a higher rank in the temple. You're trusted with more secrets and you must shoulder more responsibility. You go from smalltime "around town" quests to quest-lines with larger girth.
Quests could include:
Assassinating high level dissidents
Strengthening diplomatic relations with temple supporters like redoran and hlaalu
Guarding High level Temple Priests during sermons
Performing "miracles" of healing in smaller less educated townships (gathering groups in the center of town and healing beggars for example)
Capturing vampires and necromancers and performing public executions of them
et-cetera et-cetera

Heres an example of a cool multi-step quest I thought up.

The Shrine To St. Jiub
The temple wants to commemorate the heroic deeds of the newest addition to its pantheon of saints, Jiub. It has been decided by the High Fane that A shrine should be constructed in the place where jiub fell. You are to be the foreman of this project and oversee its steps. The Temple gives you some names and sends you on your way.

Step 1: Finding a builder: this part brings you on a search for a builder -preferably a devout follower of the tribunal- who is well versed in velothi architecture and who is willing to construct the temple. This may involve somehow persuading the builder to do it (either by bribing or maybe even by slipping him some skooma and tricking him into thinking he has received a holy vision)

Step 2: materials: This part might involve recruiting orcs to quarry stone, finding a proper grove of trees to mill for timber, even scouring riverbanks for clay (all of which could be transported by hired orcish porters who you must escort)

Step 3: Painting the mural: In true velothi tradition the Temple has commissioned a painting for the shrine of Jiub... the only problem... you need to find an artist! The artist in question could be an old master of Temple art or that master apprentice but either way you'll need to convince them to join your cause (this shouldn't be hard if they're devout enough).
The painter may then request of you the proper paint for the mural -because not just any paint will do- which sends you off to find materials for "Red Ash Paint" to complete the mural.
Red Ash Paint being a combination of: Thrice Blessed Water, Ash Salts, and Comberries.

Step 4: Recovering the weapons of St. Jiub. Simple enough, its an item fetching quest, hahah. But for all we know the weapon and shield of Jiub (lets say, war-spade of st. Jiub and Shalk Carapace Shield, as examples) could have been stolen by grave robbers or even picked up by an innocent civilian and carried back to a village. Either way you must return these to the shrine (which should be done by the time you get them) thus completing the quest.

I don't know, seems like cool ideas to me. but then again anyone can think up cool ideas. its putting them into action that I have trouble with.

happy modding!! i look forward to seeing more of your great progress and to eventally contribute more than words.
cheers!! :goodjob:

I like your ideas, although that's quite a bit of violence and wrongdoing (on the player's and faction's part). Maybe it would need to focus a bit more on divine favor, good deeds, and that sense. Love your ideas, keep em' coming.
