The story of the expulsion of Christians from 17 century Japan is a pretty sad one. A foreign aid to the Emperor simply told the Emperor what the Catholic Priests were saying behind his back, he reacted quite violently. There are many Samurai artifacts from that era that display Christian motifs. A religion should never be judged according to the actions of a few of its members.

Back to the subject of Akaviri religion, have you read any of the elder scrolls lore about the Psijics and CHIM? From what I've read of it, it seems pretty heavily influenced by buddhist metaphysics, but has a lot of interesting ideas all of its own too.

Looking at that would be a good prototype for designing new sects for Akavir.
