You certainly can claim it. :check:

Let's start any discussion regarding the questline in this thread. And perhaps Xaeaix can offer a few opinions. After all, he's worked with the Dark Brotherhood quest mod for quite some time now and may have come across talk of the Shadowscales before. Anyway, I'd be delighted to offer help with the writing.

In the meantime, it's worth mentioning that Gideon is the likely location of the Shadowscales. I've been meaning to set up a 'revamp' claim so that we can make use of Helborne's medieval architectures and this would then open the door to some more Shadowscale activity.....but if you're looking for a place to start in the gameworld then it would be good to scout around the city as it is and look for a likely 'home' for them.

Cool, I was looking at lore, at there is not much regarding them, other than they are born under the sign of The Shadow and they are apart of the Dark brotherhood.

I ave no questline ideas atm, though I would like this to be a standalone questline but have some ties to the Dark Brotherhood. Possibly some NPCs in DB will be apart of this quest and depending on how things play out it could change how the DB quest plays.

Any writing help would be appreciated, now I gotta download BM and start looking Big Grin

One idea I had was if the player was both an Argonian or shadowscale (Modified Argonian race) and the shadow birthsign then things could start a little differently.

My idea of a Shadowscale quest goes something like this:

The player encounters an Argonian in the early parts of a larger dungeon. They fight together until it starts to get tough, and the player then discovers that the Argonian is in fact a Shadowscale. Apparently, he's searching for revenge. A tougher fiend at the end of the dungeon is the target. Once it's dead, the Shadowscale claims to have been poisoned and only his Shadowscale friends know how to cure it. He asks you to escort him to a special place with a signal flare, which he lights, and by nightfall a few black-scaled Argonians appear, and they talk in an unknown tongue. By the end of the conversation, the "poisoned" Shadowscale turns to the player, right after which one of the others slash him by the neck, killing him. They then leave.

The player loots the corpse and finds a particular Shadowscale amulet. He's prompted to find more about it, so he asks certain shopkeepers and is eventually led to a recluse living in a well-hidden cabin up in some trees.

And so on and so forth. Key aspects include the player encountering the Shadowscale on a more human and equal level and only afterwards seeing the "coolness" of the group as well as an opportunity to develop a deep and rich story concerning this particular Shadowscale. Tracing his steps back and back discovering that he had a lover in Stonewaste and a rather perplexing tendency to try and fix everything that isn't right. The fiend, f.i., was kidnapping people from a small village.

Oh, and the "poison" of course being humanity, or a variation on it.

Edit: Oh my, all these edits, I'm becoming more and more like Ibsen. *ba-dum-pish*

After a bit of thought, I saw the connection. The idea is that the Shadowscales in this scenario are protecting the purity of the race, right? That humanity is a sort of 'infection'? I like this idea. It provides a nice opportunity to consider some pretty dark messages.

Although I was going to ask why exactly they would kill him, it would therefore be more apt to spend a little time on characterising the fiend. You could go the ironic way and make the 'fiend' quite an innocent creature somehow or you might link the fiend with some form of vengeance conducted by another race as a way of punishing the Hist (via the Argonians) for having infected so many with the Khanaten flu during an invasion of the BM way back in history.

In fact, I do have a storyline already written (ironically, I was planning to use this as an extra to the Dark Brotherhood mod!) that might fit in here. It involves a fairly innocent character who is unaware of their family ties with the Valga dynasty (Chorrol and Leyawiin). He is an illegitimate heir who might disgrace the family, especially considering the fact that he is the result of a freakish occurence that has led to him becoming a 'half-zombie'. Maybe his condition is the only thing that can possibly infect the Argonians with zombification. With Helborne's zombie models, this would prove very do-able.

Further details might involve bringing in the shamanic practices as the Argonians seek to exploit this new zombification to their advantage whilst the Shadowscales seek to preserve the purity of the beast races by the command of Sithis, with whom they enjoy a special relationship!

P.S. As a continuation of these ideas, what do you think about linking this idea up here: Thoughts on breeding ?

If you have a storyline already written, I would love to take a read Smile, I could see this being fully expanded into a standalone questline, which would be better than OB's offering.

It would need to be re-written a little because the names refer to places that exist in vanilla OB and the characters wouldn't match up very well. I would have to shift the main events from Chorrol to Leyawiin. One of the main characters can then plausibly cross the border into the Black Marshes. I'll have to get back to you on the quest as it needs reshuffling. It's going on my ever-growing 'to do' list...

This definitely looks interesting. I've been interested in the shadowscales since I found out about them from the male argonian dark brotherhood (who I can't remember the name of) and finding out more about them would be an amazing way of going. I've offered my contributions in the thread I started, which Ibsen already linked to

Yup I saw the thread, what we need is one unified thread for the storyline. This will be better since quite a few people have ideas which the quest will benefit from.
