I have seen it used a few times in Oblivion, though not often enough to use it regularly. It is used in Oblivion to refer to elves in the sense of dark elves and wood elves etc. although I believe that in most TES lore, its actual meaning is "folk".

Here is the actual names of all the 'mer':

Dunmer - Dark Folk
Bosmer - Tree-Sap Folk (I know, it's weird)
Altmer - Cultured Folk
Chimer - Changed Folk
Dwemer - Deep Folk
Falmer - Snow Folk
Orsimer - Pariah Folk
Aldmer - First Folk / Elder Folk

Oh now I see it. I just thought that sounded more Elder Scroll-ish than putting folk. I can change it to elves I guess...

To be honest, I don't see a problem with using 'mer', I'm just responding to IG's post. Deeza will clear up this, though.

Actually, come to think of it, strictly speaking 'mer' is used more often than 'elves', because the majority of NPCs refer to dark elves as Dunmer or High Elves as Altmer, which I suppose is just specifying which mer they were talking about.
