Yes the characters will refer to words not letters, sorry if my posts were confusing.

I was wondering how you were planning to "translate" when you don't know the language! At least with ideograms you don't have to know the actual phonetics. Assuming the original was actually developed with a "real" language in mind not just randomly generated by Bethdevs.
