Well, we could make it clear it wouldn't be official, I guess.

There are ten Jel words, max. They should all be in TIL's translation dictionary.

Argonians in Arena were gray humans with weird faces Wink

Really? (runs to boot up copy) You're right... I wonder how they explained that? I really like the way they explained why khajiit look completely different in each game, but I've never seen anything similar for Argonians.

Do you suppose they got retconned into Kothringi?

Nah, just game progression. We do know there are different types of Argonians, and gray dudes may be one, but its never been officially explained.

...and if Bethesda are a little loose with their own lore then so can we, I reckon.

Theres really a difference with Bethesda "being loose" with lore and modders "being loose" with lore. When Beth does it, its almost always a progression (i.e. - gray dudes are stupid, lizards are cool) or elaboration. Arena can only barely be considered lore anyhow, and in Redguad and after Bethesda had a fairly steady set of lore and a plan for where they are going.

Modders are doing a different sort of extrapolation, namely filling in blank areas of lore. It can be done in a plausible (i.e. not denied or contradicted by lore) or a possible (supported by lore) fashion. Most of what we do will be merely plausible, but degrees of plausibility vary. Bethesda's changes shouldn't be used as a basis to fuck over lore - "Beth changed Cyrodiil from jungle to forest, so lets put a desert in the middle of Black Marsh"

Anyways, no one is going to complain about you skewing lore.
