[wip] Dwemer Art - The Alik'r Desert
Hi, guys
I would like to tell you about my project Smile

The mod covers the western province of Hammerfell, the homeland of Redguards, or the Alik’r desert to be exact. We had the ability to visit it in Daggerfall, but the Lore was only starting to develop at that time, and, alas, we didn’t hear anything about the dwemers and the Crowns. Though I’m not sure about the Crowns… Anyway, in my humble opinion, the real, “true” Lore was developed only by the time Redguard was published. Utterly awesome game, btw. That was the first time we encountered a working centurion sphere and got killed by it, while trying to figure out its mechanism. We acknowledged the Redguard culture, which didn’t change a bit in Oblivion.
What’s a usual TES game concept? I think it’s a struggle of the native population against the conquerors. Same scenario here: the Crowns, fighting for the independence of Hammerfell and the Lhotunics, supporters of the Empire. And the Oblivion crisis at hand. What we need is risen dwemer technologies and a third side in the conflict with unknown cause…

The Alik’r Desert.
The concept of the mod developed through time. At first, I wanted to implement a big dungeon, like Ivellon, only with dwemer technologies in it. Later, we did a bonus: a small part of the desert with an exterior somewhat reminding dwemer ruins. But that wasn’t enough for us! And here we are, developing the kingdoms of Alik’r and Bergama with their capitals, settlements, different ruins and other locations.

At the beginning, I wanted to make a huge desert. It looked astounding, but there was nothing to do in it. Then we started adding some vegetation, oases and different canyons to it. And that’s how we got to the result presented on the screenshot. In fact, that’s not the final concept.

Cities and settlements.
Enough about the desert. There was one thing we missed out. The desert covers the territory of at least five Hammerfell kingdoms! We decided to work on Alik’r and Bergama, though Antifilos was also in our plans (eventually we decided to leave it out). You’ll also encounter a few Redguard settlements, pick up a few quests or just take a nap or whatever.

Interiors of Bergama. I don’t want to show the exteriors yet Wink

Redguard ruins and caves
Ancient ruins, forsaken cities, shrines, burial grounds, even Egyptian-style tombs. Harrison Ford would definitely play it!

Satakals, members of the Satakal (Akatosh-like) cult, attacking my honestly stolen cart.

[Image: Oblivion%202011-06-11%2021-08-45-10.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-05-01%2021-02-51-66.jpeg]

The fort of Bergama, destroyed during The Warp in the West, and a tomb interior example (not fully complete). There aren’t many caves, and those you’ll encounter will mostly be situated in clefts.

[Image: Oblivion%202010-09-25%2023-22-41-56.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-05-26%2017-41-55-48.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202010-10-17%2017-47-24-49.jpeg]

Dwemers, dwemers and even more dwemers! And our pride – dwemer art! We recreated a few dwemer sets of dungeons, multiple mechanisms and robots, we even created some of our own!

[Image: Oblivion%202011-05-29%2012-53-49-01.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-05-30%2001-04-44-85.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-05-06%2017-53-00-55.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-05-06%2017-51-48-69.jpeg]

[Image: Oblivion%202011-06-12%2014-40-49-21.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-06-12%2015-57-42-41.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-06-12%2014-47-57-60.jpeg] [Image: Oblivion%202011-05-06%2017-55-23-73.jpeg]

It’s worth mentioning, that dwemer centurions are robots, and robots tend to fall apart when they are destroyed. Exploding centurion spheres, hands and heads falling apart… That’s the way it should be done. A few lucky players might even encounter dwemer ghosts. But what’s even more intriguing is that every single dwemer ruin has its own history and its own quest. Everything, from a usual tower, that enables you to change the weather to… Spoiler-spoiler-spoiler! System failure! Shutdown!

That looks visually stunning. Very well done! You've successfully made it look quite different from Anequina, which is quite an achievement.

Have you gotten in touch with the TR Hammerfell project? I'm sure they'd have all sorts of advice regarding lore and design that could be really useful for your project.

They did great job with Hammerfell, but our mod take place in new worldspace. And my knowledge about Lore is not so bad, but I can't say it about my English, so it's very hard to communicate with all of you, guys Smile

Beautiful. You've managed to get a nice range of landscapes and architecture, that looks like it should be really fun to play.

I missed your post, sorry for that. Smile

The third screenshot in this post is the same as in the OP first (top left one, cactus), I guess it's no longer an active project. In any case it's the same team.
