- Xae - 07-09-2011 All right, here's an early version of the Stormhold sign texture. Are there a couple of good pics of the city around that I can use to guide the aesthetic? ![]() - Deeza - 07-11-2011 I'm afraid I don't know of any fully up to date pictures. However, there are some more elderly pics here: Stormhold The general aesthetic is that it's a jungle fortress built to guard the entrance to Cyrodiil. It's dank, vaguely gothic (though not to the same extent as Gideon), and has architectural similarities to Leyawiin. It was built on top of a Marsh Elf ruin, and chunks of rubble, old ruined arches and so on are built into the new buildings of the city. - Xae - 07-11-2011 Thanks, Deez, that description was just what I was looking for. I'll work some more on this and then check it out in-game. The next few days are a bit hectic but I should have an update by the weekend. - Ibsen's Ghost - 07-11-2011 Great stuff! Good luck with the progress, Xae! - Deeza - 07-11-2011 Glad I could be of some use. I have just moved house and currently have no internet, so I won't be able to download or upload for a while. - Koniption - 07-15-2011 Hi guys, I finally got the oil lamp part of the Stormhold sign done. It will be a separate light object. Pic is attached to this post. Koniption - Ibsen's Ghost - 07-15-2011 Lovely stuff, KP. It suits Stormhold perfectly. - Xae - 09-14-2011 Right, this is getting way overdue. If someone could be me for a week whilst I go on vacation, that'd be just fine. Argonian Folklore Museum: Is this a museum of books and stories? Guild of Mercers: Are these literal mercers, i.e., textile dealers, dry-goods merchants? Customs, Excise & Permits and Stormhold Embassy: I would probably go with just a sign for the embassy. The Tradehouse: Is this a merchants' court? Sorkvijd's Terrible Terrarium: Taxidermist? Gatehouse Armoury: This doesn't quite sound like a store but more like the general storeroom belonging to guardsmen of the gatehouse. Inferno Inn: Jungle Maiden/Siren Inn? Because of the woman singing in the music. Gatehouse Blacksmiths: Would it be possible to merge these two into a single establishment called the Gatehouse Outfitters or something similar? Mission Chapterhouse: Commercial buildings and important establishments should have signs, probably not religious ones. Stormhold Embassy: How come there's a Stormhold Embassy inside Stormhold? The Guardhouse: Should probably be unsigned. - Ibsen's Ghost - 09-14-2011 Argonian Folklore Museum: A museum of Argonian culture containing cultural artifacts, scale-models of architecture and cultural items, both valuable and of ethnic interest. A full description is here: NJRI0322 "Stormhold: Rottmere Museum: 2nd Floor" (Completed) . Guild of Mercers: These are literally mercers i.e., textile dealers, dry-goods merchants and makers of fine cloth. Here is the description: NJRI0321 "Stormhold: Guild of Mercers" (Completed) . Customs, Excise & Permits and Stormhold Embassy: Just a sign for the embassy is ideal. Here is the thread: NJRI0311 "Stormhold Customs & Excise" (Completed) . In answer to the question of how come there is a Stormhold Embassy inside Stormhold: it's because Stormhold is regarded as a border city for travellers coming from both Cyrodiil and Morrowind. Although it might be referred to as the Imperial Embassy (which there's a good argument for tbh), the Stormhold Embassy (through the inclusion of the 'permits' office) deals with all those wishing to gain access to BM's cities. This particular need is catered for in the MQ as they should be unable to gain access to the cities initially. The Tradehouse: Yes, this is kind of a merchant's court. See here: NJRI0304 "Stormhold Tradehouse" (Completed) . Sorkvijd's Terrible Terrarium: Sorkvijd's main work is as a Taxidermist but he is likely to also become an advisor on the fauna of the region besides making pets and suchlike available. This is the relevant thread: NJRI0310 "Stormhold: Sorkvid's Terrarium" (Completed) . Gatehouse Blacksmiths & Armoury: Merging these two into the Gatehouse Outfitters is fine by me. Or you could simply opt for the Gatehouse Blacksmiths & Armoury unless you figured it was too much of a mouthful. We're better off with fewer sign models on the whole for memory-size-reduction reasons, anyway. The Blacksmiths thread is here: NJRI0305 "Stormhold Gatehouse Blacksmiths" (Completed) whereas the Armoury thread is here: NJRI0306 "Stormhold Gatehouse Armoury" (Completed) . Inferno Inn / Three-Hearths Inn: I'm afraid I'm not budging on the name for this one as it is the only Stormhold location mentioned in the lore. I have a preference for having the official name as 'The Three Hearths' whereas the nickname is 'The Inferno Inn' since it is the three hearths that make it so hot! Perhaps Deeza can enlighten me where we originally had the confusion over which name to use and which one it is that actually appears in lore.....although I'm pretty sure that the lore reference is for 'The Three Hearths Inn'. Here is the relevant thread: NJRI0312 "Stormhold Inferno Inn" (Completed) . Mission Chapterhouse: Although it is true that "commercial buildings and important establishments should have signs but probably not religious ones", I had considered having a sign for the Chapterhouse by means of marking it out. The Mission relates to the Order of Constantine in the city whose story is written here: The Stormhold Missionary . What I had wanted to do was to have some kind of symbol that marked the Order out. As the hammer symbolises Stormhold (as a tool used in building the cities and forging a bridge between provinces), it also has some relevance for Constantine too since he was instrumental in Stormhold's history. Therefore, I had considered the hammer but wondered if it might in some way be stylised differently or be something different altogether... The Guardhouse: Unsigned is fine for this. - Xae - 09-19-2011 Thank you, IG, I'll get onto this now. Pardon the delay. |
