Kreshweed in Oblivion - Razorwing - 06-14-2006
I've modelled a kreshweed plant in a couple different variations, which I thought we could use in the Reich Parkeep region. I'd like to think I've learnt from past mistakes in keeping the poly count rather low, because I'd rather mod ten optimized flowers than one high-poly. It's still at least twice as polydense as the TES3 original though, and won't be as large, so I think it'll work out. Here's a max render of variant #2:

(I'm content with the way my plant looks, btw)
I have a question though. Does anyone know what the texture "Morrowind\Data Files\Textures\Tx_kreshweed_01.tga" is used for? Because I knew how to use (the Morrowind Visual Pack equivalents of) the other three; 02 is the stem, 03 the leaves, and 04 the flower petals. But as far as I can tell, 01 is a duplicate of 03 both in appearance and file size - both for the TES3 set as well as the MVP set. Bethesda didn't even use it on the ingredient placement mesh, which would have been my first guess - they used 02 there too. Is it just something they left in there by mistake, or...?

That looks good! Hooray for the MW Visual Pack!
EDIt: No idea about that texture btw. I say if it looks fine now, don't worry about it.

Good job Razorwing :goodjob:

Thanks guys!
The poly budget can be a bit restrictive, and it would have been very easy to make it much smoother, but it wouldn't have been as useful then. But I'm excited about the possibility of having normal maps for these flowers in the future, since I think that'd go a long way towards negating the angular impression in their current appearance.
I bet you're right about the superflous texture Caligula, and I've tossed it. On the other hand I made some more variations so I could use the textures from Vibrant Morrowind as well. That pack, and MVP, are the only texture replacers I know of that have Morrowindy plant textures. Would you (or someone else) happen to know of additional sources?

Not to my knowledge no. I have never seen any other texture replacers other than those two.
Are we able to use Opacity maps? That would be a good way to get rid of the angles on the leaves.

We sure are, and that's a great idea. I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps I can convince the future texture artist to do that.

Only problem... the Gamebyro engine doesn't handle translucent/transparent textures well.

I meant as in it doesn't handle them efficiently.

Razorwing, did I send you the plant files for TES3? I had quite a few variants that you're welcome to have. - Grey
