MageHalls - Ibsen's Ghost - 11-22-2009
As discussed recently in this post: NJRI0307 "Stormhold Mages Guild" (Completed) and beyond, it was generally agreed that there should be 'MageHalls' that would effectively be the means of transportation for Mages between Guilds. This is merely a trial run but the beginning is here to see. I used a new sky texture and you'll also notice the temporary cube texture being used here which is similar to the original one used as the Hist key. This texture will change. Likewise, I'd like to add further chambers. At least one of these will be 'Escher-inspired' but I'm hoping that there can be a hallway leading off to various different access points. Perhaps the access points can only be enabled once certain trials have been passed. The distinction here is that Imperial magic struggles to take full effect under the influence of the Hist and the lack of access therefore represents your inexperience in dealing with it.
Oh yes, and you basically walk on water here whilst the waterfalls are impassable as there are collision boxes stopping you both on the ground and on the 'waterwalls'.

Some thoughts, since it's a trial run.
The air needs something. Thick mist with lots of sparkling particles or the like. Right now you can see the walls too clearly and it's not convincing enough. I think some kind of air-effect would bring the elements together and heighten the fifth dimension-feel.
And I get the feeling that there should be red carpets or something under the bookshelves. The water-floor is really neat but in the picture you took the shelves look like they're floating. Maybe they wouldn't be there at all if it's just for transportation purposes.
Oh, and the place should have will-o'-the-wisps as keepers that make faint whispers when you walk past them.

if you could creat something like this:
![[Image: escher--unbelievable-527579_1024_768.jpg]](http://images.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/escher--unbelievable-527579_1024_768.jpg)
perhaps you could have it that entering from certain areas causes the room to "rotate", so you can only get to certain places from others, or after you've done certain quests etc.
It might be better if it was more spread out though, so players couldn't just jump between doors when the room was at one orientation.

EDIT: Perhaps one of the early quests involving this dimension could be to clear it of some demonic infestation?
Perhaps it could later be revealed that other factions have access to the dimension, which would allow the network to lead to more varied locations as well as some interesting questing (maybe even double corssing the mages guild!?)

I agree with Xaeaix. Maybe you should add foggy weather to that dimension's worldspace, and heavy-ish fog at that.
Overall, the walking on water and the sky texture look pretty cool.

Aye, I'll look into that, folks. For some reason, the clouds aren't showing up very clearly in the sky but the fog effect does need to be added along the walls. I'd considered using floating rocks where the waterfalls begin round around the rim but I'm not sure about it tbh.
That's exactly what I was referring to, LR. It's either an MC Escher painting or a 3D mock-up inspired by his artwork. The problem is finding the right models and getting some stairs that will fit and make the right proportions whilst also not being a mismatch of styles. I can lay my hands on balcony models and I'm sure I can get independent staircase models but the difficulty lies in blending it all together.
Fantastic idea about the rotation. If it can't be animated then it can be a case of using a series of separate WS to teleport to wherein the conjoined models have been rotated by hand in the CS. Additionally, this makes sense of the door 'key' being a rotating box as there might actually be some kind of representation of this idea on the surfaces of the box...perhaps something that looks like a see-through version of the actual location.... =)

Maybe Razorwing could help with that when he gets back.

That would be cool....if he's willing to spare the time from Silgrad Tower, that is.

Currently I'm scouring TESNexus, planet elder scrolls, elricM and ORE of all their modders resources - if I see something that might look good, I'll tell you ![Smile Smile](https://www.silgradmodding.net/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)
PS:I dont care what other people are saying - the origionalo screenshots look VERY professional! :goodjob:

Don't spend too long on that, MS (how's MS for an abbreviated name? Or does that sounds too much like that horrible disease?).
I'm quite clued up on what's out there. Nevertheless, there may be some bits of architecture that I've not come across....I don't visit the Elric site very often, for example. Oh, and thanks for the compliment! =)
