List of Factions
[/HR] THIS POST HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY IBSEN'S GHOST FOR FACTION INFORMATION The following is a list of assigned details to each of the factions in alphabetical order. I expect that these details may change during the process of deciding upon the various different details for each faction, so stay tuned for updates and developments that will affect the interior claims and other details. Bear in mind that the words in capitals beginning with SPECIALIST refer to out-of-house resources that can be found here: CLAIM: Armour and Weapon Assignations to Factions : FACTION LISTINGS

I noticed that KuKulza mentions the Archeology Guild in that list. Was that before or after 'Lost Spires' was released?
You probably already know that I did all the voices for 'Lost Spires' but I thought it might interest someone that would consider furthering the idea of an archeology Guild in BM that they already have some cool resources available to them: 1) I can reprise some of my earlier roles from the original mod (which is currently sitting pretty at #7 in the TesNexus Top Mod lists - the highest for a quest mod). Of course, Teav, my Argonian character is dead now but that could be a source of inspiration for a new storyline. I could certainly help with the storyline as well, if needed. 2) I might be able to get some small amounts of help and support from Leo Gura himself (the creator who earned a place with Boston2k on the back of this work). 3) The Spires themselves and the caves associated with them (check the screenies on the site) should be available. And if the storyline takes us in such a direction then it might be cool (and easy to do) to change the general 'blue' look of the caves to a different colour....and to 'mossify' the Spires themselves. I'd avoid 'claiming' this particular part of BM because I feel confident that there are potential recruits out there who would be more than happy to make 'Lost Spires - Part II' within a whole new worldspace.

Right. I didn't know that existed, it's a good list. It's very comprehensive, but I think that some of the factions should, in fact, be merged. For example, there's no point having both the Royal Court and Royal Army as separate factions (when instead you could join the Army and work your way up to the Court, which makes more sense). Also, I can't see being a Census and Excise officer being much fun for the player. As it is, I just don't think we'll be able to make that many main quests and still make sure they're all as well-developed as they should be to be interesting. Also, the ones we do include as joinable factions could use a bit more development - perhaps they should have "recruitment" books which explain their motives, like all the factions in Vanilla Oblivion - I could easily write these if you like.
But what we need to decide now is, how many of these factions will appear in the beta? I think the Mages' Guild and Thieves' Guild would probably be restricted to this area of the country, seeing as it's the only bit the Empire really controls. The Ka'Pura tribe (possibly they were the ones later renamed Hixinoag? I think Hixinoag is a better name) will be in Blackwood, as will the Blackwood company. Based on my idea for Tenmar Wall, there would probably be some people from the Khanaten Liberation army hiding there. A few Shadowscales will be around doing missions for their masters, and there will be a few Archeins in each city, but perhaps these factions should not be joinable in this chapter of BM? Edit: Ibsen, I for one would really like to work on some kind of continuation of the Lost Spires story! That's a fantastically generous offer to investigate that possibility for us. I wonder though, are you thinking of a direct continuation of the story of the Spires themselves, or a different adventure, perhaps with a continuation of the story of some of the characters? It could be fun to have them exploring the ruins of the Kothringi in the deep marsh!

Quote:Originally posted by Deeza Seeing as I voiced all of the male characters, it would be easy to 'write in' their involvement with a 'Lost Spires - Part II' questline and expect some serious continuation. In fact, some of the lines that I wrote for the Assistants regarding the backgrounds of all of the Guild members would be directly applicable towards making some sort of a continuation. Actually, there are parts of the storyline that come across as not just H.P. Lovecraft inspired but also 'Heart of Darkness' (Joseph Conrad) inspired (which was also the basis for the film 'Apocalypse Now'). Seeing as how the book was originally set in the jungle, there would be a real foundation for continuing the second episode in this vein. As far as the 'continuation' question goes then I think that a BM version of LS would definitely use the elements (and NPCs / models / creatures) of that mod but simply apply it to our country. In a sense, it would represent 'Part II' but we could fit the relevance of why the Warlocks would choose to set up their Spires in the swamps to the needs of the BM itself whilst also acknowledging what has gone before. A continuation would need to consider both what has gone before and where that fits in the whole game-plan for BM. I'm absolutely certain that Leo would have no problem with us using his stuff (hey, it's me after all and he's grateful for my work!)

I'm really excited about this now.
The way it seems to me, given that this would be a direct sequel to the "Lost Spires" storyline (and therefore you'd have to have played part I first for the plot to make sense), this might work better as an .esp which is dependent on BM, rather than an integrated into the .esm? This would give the people who want to work on it more freedom, provided it was agreed in advance which locations in the swamps would be used. Just my thoughts. Plus, wait a second..... the Argonian guy dies? Noooo! (I only discovered the Lost Spires recently and still haven't got all the way to the end) ---- rushes off to boot up his copy of Oblivion -----

Ach, sorry Deeza! I should have put spoiler marks around that (can we do that on these forums?).
I think this is only do-able once we have completed the beta regions and a bit more besides. In fact, the beta's completion should signal the start of work on this one, IMO. The Spires will need to be spread around but as long as there is a basis for putting in some major areas then it can begin. However, I don't think there is a tremendous need to make it an 'add-on'. My initial idea was simply to vary the types of dungeons we have available to us and to have the Spires embedded in our landscape would be a real benefit to the general look of the mod (they look gorgeous!). It's just that, until you reach a certain point in the missions, then some areas should be inaccessible.
