<strong>How does it work?</strong></p>
<p> Dunmer forenames are assembled by combining two syllables and then a surname appropriate
for the person's Great House is appended. While the pop-up window is actuve, just hit the refresh button
on your keyboard (usually F5) to generate five new name combinations. If you instead right-click the links
and choose 'Save as...' you can save the name generators to your computer, which can save you a great
deal of time if you plan to create a lot of NPCs.</p>
<p> <strong>Why separate Dunmer names by Great House?</strong></p>
<p> Great Houses were formed as minor Houses, i.e. extended families, banded together.
A Dunmer's family name is therefore indicative of which Great House his family belongs to. </p>
<p><strong>Do I have to follow the generated Dunmer names?</strong></p>
<p> No, not necessarily. The only thing that's really important is that you don't mix up
the relationship between family names and Great House. For instance the Dren family is one of the most
famous and influential clans of House Hlaalu and it would be farfetched for a Redoran NPC to have that
surname.</p>
<p>If you're modding a Dunmer who serves in the Imperial Legion or any other non-Great House
faction there's more freedom in choosing the surname, assuming you don't go out of your way to give him
the wrong Great House relationship in dialogue and such.</p>
<p><strong>Are there any special Dunmer cases?</strong></p>
<p>Oh yes, several. The term &quot;Serjo&quot; is a sign of respect among Dunmer, and can
be likened to the term &quot;Mister&quot;. Serjo Avon Oran (id: avon oran), the local leader in Suran
is the only one to have the title appended to his actual name, which I can only assume is a mistake on
Bethesda's part since other NPCs are referenced by Serjo without the title appended to their actual name.</p>
<p>A handful of Dunmer only have one name, most notably but not restricted to poweful Telvanni
lords like Therana, Dratha and Aryon. Valderon is a local example.</p>

<p>Nick-names aren't unheard of either, like with <em>&quot;Edd &quot;Fast Eddie&quot; Theman&quot;</em>,
the Telvanni who becomes your Mouth if you pursue the Telvanni Great House career in TES3. They shouldn't be
very common in our mod, though.</p>
<p><strong>What does 'Stack owerflow at line: 39' mean?</strong></p>
<p> I have no idea why Internet Explorer sometimes complains about this when you're generating
names. Possibly because it doesn't like arrays this large. <a href="http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/" target="_blank">Firefox</a>
doesn't seem to have a problem with it though.</p>
<p><strong>Will you add Indoril and Dres generators too?</strong></p>
<p> We'll see, but at the moment I don't think I can since I don't know what surnames they use. </p>
<p><strong>Nord names</strong></p>
<p> Nords don't have surnames in the usual sense, but they often have a descriptive name tagged
along, like &quot;the White&quot; or &quot;the Stout&quot; or &quot;Half-beard&quot; or &quot;Red-spear&quot;.
Those descriptive names go beyond the scope of the generator and should be decided by the modder as is appropriate
for the specific character.</p>
<p><strong>Altmer names</strong></p>
<p> High elves sometimes have a heritage name appended to their real name. Like &quot;Nalcarya
of White Haven&quot; or &quot;Mollimo of Cloudrest&quot;. Those heritage names go beyond the scope of the generator
and should be decided by the modder.</p>
<p><strong>Orc names</strong></p>
<p> There's no discernable difference between male and female forenames. The difference lies in
the prefix appended to their surname, which is gro- for males and gra- for females. The surname itself is the
name of the Orc's father, so that's something you have to look out for if you're making an Orc family. The prefix
always starts with lowercase, same as in the would-be human name &quot;Ulrich von Lichtenstein&quot;.</p>
<p><strong>Hmm... I've seen a similar system on Tamriel Rebuilt's website!</strong></p>
<p> It's true that Tamriel Rebuilt also have a name generator. However this system was not
based on it in any way.</p>
<p>The source is a javascript written by Premshree Pillai, which can be found <a href="http://www.geocities.com/e_i_search/premshree/web-include/pub/scripts/JS/random_numbers2.htm" target="_blank">here</a>
(don't go there, it's an icky geocities site shockfull with forced advertising). The names were gathered
by sorting the NPC list in <em>TES III: Morrowind's Construction Set</em> and typing information into
a text editor.</p>

and what about Dagoth? I think their isn't much, but there is a little bit... also the Dagoths' names such as Gares, Odros, Velos, etc. seem to be semi-unique... perhaps remnants of the Dagoth naming hrug:

Not too sure about Dagoth though. I thought most of the current members of House Dagoth were "adopted in" in modern times? Sleepers, the Blight etc. If so I imagine they would have kept their birth names. But I could be wrong.

some last names, like Sadri for example, ocur in multiple houses. only the names of minor houses (eg. dren) are Great house specific.
