WOW - :bugg-eyed.gif: monster rocks! bob##### (with even more lotsa numbers I see) does things big. I wasn't thinking so generously rock-wise - maybe it works 'cos then the shacks might seem less noticeable from a distance? the bigger shack works fine as they are supposed to be families...

options to consider:
There again, if it can be done, it would look more homely with the rock more like 3/4 the height of a shack above the shacks max.

Each shack at different heights then, so the one is suitable to berth a rowing boat, one for the scholars' ship, and a third (by coincidence) for a pirate galleon also?

The lowest platform/s might have something to tie a rowing boat to. The higher ones might have the top of the pilings sticking up above the level of the platform. These might be used to moor the bigger ships to.

Love the barnacles on the pilings of the first one - but... these are new buildings - yer barnacles would be useful later on... to show age and time passing...

The dog-tooth 'rough edge' at the ends of the platforms is a fine touch - helps the rough look. And as these are the living spaces, if you wanted to increase the platform sizes that would be fine too... nothing excessive, just enough so that it's all more about living area.

And here is a fun thought - in time, this rock might be used as the foundation for a tower as the poor refugee fishermen become wealthy through the extra income from trade passing through and berthing!

later:
A document confirming the lack of ownership of the rock might make a fine side-quest ... with the bad guys realising that the rock is actually becoming valuable and sending thieves or assassins to steal or destroy the proof or substitute a forgery ...

The Pirate Fort Location might provide a different twist - it might belong to a vulnerable Redoran Family, and the Hlaalu or Dres might be trying to steal it...

While we are on vulnerable - maybe near the end of our series of Quests a few very bedraggled Indoril peasants could arrive at the Uni seeking shelter as their daughter has been kidnapped and homes have been taken from them by the Dres. They might be seeking to set up a small farm somewhere... = set up an allotment on the University grounds or send them to the new Port where the fisher families will be glad of fresh vegetables... They have been attacked and robbed once already on the journey...

heh, more work for the wicked

- bob196045 - 10-28-2006

Yup its a big rock, I needed it for effect....it worked Smile

The actual rock size to put into that area would only be 65% normal
I thought I would use 2 different land textures, 1 bc_moss and the other bc_mud... They seem to look good but maybe not Confusedhrug:

and the 4 rough rough rough draft....is it any closer ?

See Screeny

- raggidman - 10-28-2006

The textures look fine to me. Still want larger platforms Wink as this is all they have to live on ...

Scale-wise we are getting there...

Since I like the textures and scale can I winge about the rocks themselves? please?

The rock and the shacks have to seem to fit together absolutely naturally - as if they invited the building of the shacks on their slopes... There are 2 different ways to go about this:

'stepped level arrangement.' I suspect that I am suffering descriptively or terminologically from Morrowindus Crashus = I cannot get into the CS to see what is available... But see the drawing - the 'rock' is like a scaled down mini-mountain. With a rougher look and rising directly from the sea bed in one 'lift' with ledges the pylons can be wedged into per the side view drawing? It may not be as steep as in the drawing, nor does it have to be totally symmetrical. - heh, you might even stick a single little tree valiantly struggling to survive near the top... depends if this is a freshwater or salt sea at this point...

If you use the second arrangement with one big platform as in the above view on the right and named: 'alternative all on one level' that can 'surround' a 'smoothe rock' of the type you have in your screenie

The boat under the shack is great fun btw, and is that a ladder that is lowered from a trap door? :goodjob:

- bob196045 - 10-29-2006

Cool

OK so we leave the textures as is.
We will raise the landmass up and give it a rough feel and use the smooth rocks in a staggered arrangement ( seems to be the nicest arrangement)

Make the platforms larger :check:

And yes they be trap door stairs, I thought that might be a nice touch

I put together a few more drafts and see what we get Smile

Bob####

- bob196045 - 10-29-2006

Were getting there Smile

Hows this ?

See Screeny

- raggidman - 10-29-2006

hmmmm ... interestin'

right. Am assumin' them rocks is next to the Mainland maybe = too close - there needs to be room for the 2 boat pontoon bridge.

See the tree has acquired a little 'garden' = Cool plus nice tree!

Can you place the platforms so that they are half-in, half-out of the water? Thing is that I believe that they will then identify visually more closely with the 'rock' - interestin-lookin' 'rock' too btw... and that way the huts can stretch further around the rock = will also help integrate and improve dramatic effect. With the highest up the 'rock' carryin' the greater prestige in time  corruption sneaks in!

Since you have chosen the 'stepped' version (my favorite too) there can be loadsa scaffolding around the rock connecting them and to accessible areas. And there may be extra platforms that have not been built on yet.

If the different boats are to tie up there, you will need to mould the underwater gradients so that not only can the big ships moor, they will be able to manoeuver into and out of position too. And you still need bollards! Purpose built for the boats, and fortunate accident of construction for the bigger ones -= the reason I mentioned the tops of the stilts sticking out of the top of the platforms. I do realise that these are still quick experimental efforts still... Wink

And also it might be better if the tree garden was on top of the 'rock' where the little plateau appears to be. Why keep the huts further down then? Because that way the 'rock' shelters them.

My thinky bits for the mome'.

- bob196045 - 10-29-2006

Just a bit interesting Smile

Nothing more than a bad angle, those big rocks behind our little one is to the east, we will be expanding to the west (mainland) so they will not interfere, thiers plany of room betweens the 2 for a larger vessal to pass

Can you place the platforms so that they are half-in, half-out of the water

Can do

Yup, part of my thinking, lets see how it looks

Hmmmm... this could be very interesting... I'll give it a few tries and see how it works out Smile

Nope didn't forget

I'm gonna be busy for a few days so I won't get back on the Island till afterward...but I should be able to check the forum in the evenings

I thought I might bring up a potential quest for our hero with regard to the Cerro....

Elixer Shortage.... our Cerro are able to keep their disguise by means of an elixer which must be imbibed after a period of time (tbd), it turns out that there is a shortage of some of the ingredient(s) needed and our hero is asked to find it/them (thats the basic)

We will need

1) A new ingredient.... I was thinking of some kind of spice ??? That could be mined. Maybe the sap of a particular root which is found deep in sub terrianian caverns (just a thought)

2) A script to change the appearance of the vampires from Dunmer to Vampire

3) A Script to change them back once the Elixer has been consummed
(that is if we don't allready have a script for that)

The thought juices are flowing Big Grin

rm replies: there is a certain famous gardener ... with many rare plants ... who might help with info there, even if he has never been able to locate that special root himself? Wink Hmm, maybe it cannot be found in Morrowind - after many adventures (in which the dead body of the usual seller sparks panic) it might be discovered that the true source is in Elsweyr - the final solution might be with one of the later 'newcomers' to the University from other Provinces... = loong quest - with the knowledge on the part of the Cerro that their supplies are running low several well known Redoran political figures might have to go on holiday, etc ... for a while = more upsets, and interference with other quest starts and solutions - until the 'ingredients quest can be completed ... biiig twist on the usual casual find this plant please starter quest :] It could begin with the appearance of a starter quest and blow up out of all proportion with no explanation - just the mounting pressure from all sorts of powerful sources (many of whome have no idea why it is so important either, and so run to the wrong conclusions and react inappropriately) to complete it for no identifiable reason = major quest :goodjob: Great idea bob###### :goodjob: :check: :check: :check:
