[Quest Dicussion] Dwemer Mine

The real forte here would be if we had animated mining carts. I *think* Phitt has some that we can use after he's done with his mod and releases them as a Modder's Resource.

I know there are definitely small rail-cars that Phitt has that you can operate in rooms, but i'm not sure if there's anything that we could use for mining. The "Scale" button is a miraculous thing though, so who knows?
Animating some mining carts would be fairly easy - one would just need to know the layout of the mine tracks (which I assume come in several pieces). One could then use a motion path to do most of the work, and tweak the animation to look convincing. Making the wheel turn would be childs play.

I may be interested in doing this when the definitive layout for the mine tracks is completed.

It would be welcomed Nick_op. We need to see if we can get a hold of a cart, as you said seniosh the scale button is wonderous, but also we could do a retex of a standard cart we have, couldnt we?

All models created by RAII of the 'Unique Landscapes' team are free to be used. I asked him about it earlier regarding some rocks and a working, animated watermill. This mod: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16818 contains both that watermill and a working, moving cart. Here is a video preview of it in action: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Q54Vg90KlaE . Also included is a small mining tileset and a rather unusual lift Wink .

Thanks Ibsen

I am currently downloading and going to take a look. If its what we need the new assets will have to be set up and credit added to the Silgrad Credits lists [If they have one Smile]. The downside is Razorwing is away and Sandor is busy so we cant get the assets merged. Oh well we will think of someting.

Hold on now guys, the only problem i see with this is that the cart from Unique Landscapes is distinctly not dwemer.

Also, if i'm not sorely mistaken, Phitt's Dwemer set includes a mine-cart type object - it would make much more sense to use his, since it looks like a proper heavy metal durable dwemer cart.

Or, if we find Phitt's cart to be unsuitable, there's another option - Mr. Siika's Dwemer train. That's already animated, has track, is dwemer, etc. So don't get ahead of yourselves chucking models into the BSA. Plus, we already have a cart & track system made by SACarrow specifically for Silgrad, which could be retextured if absolutely necessary.

I appreciate the enthusiasm in model-gathering, but we need to focus on getting the best models that will suit our purposes. The mines haven't even been built yet, so it's not exactly an urgent need

I was purely going to check it out first, the rest of my post is about "if" its suitable. Anyway I like the idea of Mr_siika's train, I was going to mention it but you beat me to it Sehiosh X(

Anyway I did not know phitt had a cart, though I do recall the one made by SACarrow. It slipped my mind

Checking it out is perfectly fine, in fact, it looks cool enough that i might just download & play the mod. I was just advising a bit of restraint - you started talking about merging assets.

The only problem with Phitt's cart is that it *might* not have rails. However, we haven't been receiving his team's internal asset updates, so it very well may have rails by this point in time. Once he releases his assets we'll be able to determine much more clearly what we need.

Actually, the greater concern is how we'll get working machines to mine things. THAT is something we may need to either have modeled ourselves, or ask someone outside for. There aren't many giant dwemer mining devices lying around, so it'll be a challenge.

Assets aside, what do you guys think for the actual "quest"? How should the mines be used once the player has repaired them, and what barriers should the player encounter?

maybe there is something buired deep under the dwemer city and the mine is way of getting near it to extract it. Or it could just be for gathering resources.

Some blockades could be walls Smile, we could have it so the player needs to synthesis dwemer satchels which is then used to blow up a wall. This would be done with an effect shader, a sound and a script function.

I would have to concur with this

*******************************************************

Thier was no specific reason for having the mine other than just to have it

It mines ore, possibly the ore used to make their armor and machines
It would be ok if it were just ore, if you took it to a blacksmith and paid a few gold and came back some days later it could be fashioned into a piece of armor

Enjoy

I like the idea of retrieving ore and making some armor with it. Maybe there is forge you can get working and forge your own unique set of dwemer armor. It does not have to look unique [though would be better] but it could be stronger and maybe enchanted.

The mine could be a normal mine I suppose but having something unique about it would be nice to have. I am more interested in forging some armor and weapons.
