Silgrad Traders Guild - Motive Line

Then shouldn't it be a tong? Not a guild?

If this is the first instance of a Traders Guild, then we're free to do as we please. If not, we can still do whatever, but it would be best to go with what has already been stated.

What is the Dunmer word for "Trade" or "Trader"?

We know some related words...
Julan - Benefit
F'lah - Native

In Majra's Dunmeri translator...
Julrekam - Buying
Khestis - Gold
Duhnakam - Traveling
Kuayl - Luck
Julkhes - Wealth

The Majra's Dunmeri translator is well made, but itrs made-up, not established Dunmer (whichis very little)

we could go with F'lah-Julan Tong... The Native Benefit Guild... Confusedhrug:

You know guys, we are going far to much to the Dunmer side, I really insist that the biggest influence in the guild are the rich Imperials, exactly the ones who appointed Kaye Hleran: a human raised by a Dunmer. But to make the Dunmer have much influence in the Trader's Guild would be cool, because it would present another crossroads to Kaye: will he go to the Imperial side, asking for help of the Imperial Legion, or will he go to the Dunmer side, getting help from the Redoran warriors?

Repeat: the Imperial Traders Guild is known as the East Empire Company - by order of the Emperor they hold the monopolies on export of the most valuable and exotic Dunmer products such as Ebony.

Didn't you play Morrowind? Silgrad Tower is a small corner of Morrowind, not Cyrodiil - and one of the more visible themes in Morrowind and the Bethsoft expansion Bloodmoon was the East Empire Company, which became a joinable faction in the expansion.

The East Empire Company has the whole Imperial side sown up = no chance for competition - what we believe is that there has to be some effort on the part of the Dunmer to resist that, so that the proud Dunmer who do not want to spend eternity as Imperial lackeys have banded their specialist Guilds or Tongs together to compete on a more equal basis - the whole point of this faction is that they compete with the Imperials.

What I suggested previously stands - to balance the Traders Guild you need to create the East Empire Company faction too = Deadly Enemies of the Traders Guild.

not that it's not okay to change the concept of the Traders Guild
its just that me, raggidy, and many others have been thinking its like a native Tong in response to EEC and Hlaalu monopolization of trade. Hlaalu bully or persuade small-time farmers and nobles, and others to sell to them, and they sell to EEC, and to others... thus they get rich, EEC makes the rules and they get rich...
and the poor farmers, native and less kiss-ass nobles, and other laborers get shafted...

Howdy

Their is no actual traders guild in Morrowind, the closest representation is the EEC which is Imperial Controlled,
Traders Guild in Silgrad seems to have more of an Imperial Control than anything. All the leaders are Imperials and though the guild houses in Silgrad Tower and Steadhelm have no Imperial Presence, the House in RP is heavily burdened with Imperials

Ok, Ok, here's the compromise:

When the Emporer started the East Empire Company, the natives were angry, it would put them out of business. A group of Imperial businessmen saw profit in using those tongs to oppose the East Empire Company. They incorporated most of the indigenous tongs into their new "Morrowind Traders Guild". Over the years (before the years of TES III: Morrowind) the Morrowind Traders Guild was forced out of Vvardenfell, because the mines fell into the EEC's hands, killing the MTG's trade. So from that moment on they were Silgrad Traders Guild. But the fact that the EEC was heavily backed by the Empire made trade for the STG very hard. So here are the difficulties of Kaye Hleran:

The STG is weak because of bandits, and the STG is not allowed more guards:

1 Kaye could accept the offer of the EEC, to let the EEC take over the STG
2 Kaye could accept the offer of the Redoran side of the STG Senate, letting Redoran men protect the caravans
3 Kaye could accept the idea of the Imperial side of the STG Senate, hiring more freelance guards

Downsides:

1 Well, seems obvious
2 Kaye would be in debt with the Redoran, the Imperials in the STG would not like going back to the more conservative ways
3 Kaye's political 'friends' are backing off, thus it would be difficult to legally hire more freelance guards

Does this satisfy you more?

I think this satisfies all our views...

traditional native trade channeled by Imperials who admire Dunmer culture and see profit in keeping it strong economically... but meeting with different difficulties... as going too Imperial or Redoran woul dbe bad since it wants to be neutral and independent...

:lmao: bargained like a true trader - works for me if the traders are genuinely tied into the native ethos and are in part corruptible ... Wink = we can make dunmer of them all yet!

Maybe the University of Silgrad and their mysterious supporters would like to do business if that is the case ...

Goodness

I just wrote a big longwinded reply and it didn't go through cause the dang system went down X(

Anyway

Cuthalion: your plotline is good ! But their are some things that just don't fit into the theme of the Traders Guild of Silgrad, but can if modified a bit more

********************************************************

Here's a bit of Silgrad History:

The Trader Guild
Probably the most powerfull guild in the area and unique to ST. Originaly founded under imperial decret after the Battle for ST as a neutral organization to control the lucrative ebony trading route from Vvardenfell to Crydiil, the guild controls now most of the economic activity throughout the ST area by forcing any merchant to join the guild. While most Dunmer houses (especially House Hlaalu) get a share of the profits the guild earns, the houses have no control over the guild themselves.

**********************************************************

Might I suggest looking over some of these listed Threads from the Old Silgrad Archive to better understand what the Traders Guild in Silgrad is all about
