I understand... although... it all depends on timing I guess... the Europeans had it good...
they grew strong.... Aztec Empire was seeing resentment in the eyes of the tribes they conquered, Incans were in a civil war, the Mayans had been invaded by other tribes and their mighty civilization lessened.... the pueblo indians no longer had it good... drought hurt them... etc.etc.
Manchurian "Ching" dynasty was in decline when the opium hit... India was ruled by a fractured Mughal Empire...
Siberia... well siberians couldn't put up a good resistance....

o well, history can be depressing... war makes it interesting, but also sad...

off topic, but have you ever read the enders game series of books, they eventually (in shadow puppets and shadow of the hegemon) deal with future guesses as to the continuation of the human race to play out its story and create and tear down empires

If it wasn't for the Europeans, who knows what Aztecs or Mayans could've become?

Nope, sorry, I haven't read those books. Right now I am in the middle of George R. R. Martin's series "A Song of Ice and Fire" - A Feast for Crows; as well as Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" - Knife of Dreams; and am waiting for my favorite author Terry Goodkind's next book in his series "The Sword of Truth" - Phantom (due out summer of '06).

Maybe when all those are done (Goodkind only has 2 more books left in his series, while Jordan has one; don't know about Martin), I might look into some other series' to pick up on.

Actually prefer Sci-Fi books myself. Like Dune, The Almstad Wars and such.
Horror is also good: Cycle of the Werewolf. Smile
